i think it's good that he didn't play. it probably would not help his chances. he hasn't even done that good in practice. he's just not ready! not a bad thing. he's a rookie that didn't practice and is on suspension.
the bright side is, he gets to study and work out with teamates and is permitted to attend meetings. thats good stuff. and good enough for being suspended for five games. i too doubt he'll see action after those five games, sh.t, sometimes the third string doesn't even get to see action the whole year!
