CAN'T WAIT FOR THE 2009 FOOTBALL SEASON TO START
WVU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HOLD THEIR OWN. A TOP 10 FINISH IN THE POLLS WOULD BE NICE.

With the competition expected from the rest of the league, the title is up for grabs. In the end, WVU should be in serious contention, but some things will have to fall into place.

USF should be strong again. They return 8 on defense (includes George Selvie) and arguably the best QB, Jim Grothe. With the losses at RB & O-Line, Grothe may have to carry the load.

Has Pitt really come back, or was last year a fluke? They too return 8 on defense + Stull - an inconsistent QB who gave WVU some trouble in last year's contest.

Cinci returns a boat-load of talent on offense, but replaces all but one on defense. Will their offense be strong enough to simply outscore opponents, if the defense can't come through?

UConn not only returns a solid nucleus of starters, but a whole lotta letterman. They just may have the most depth in the league. If they can control their non-conference schedule, watch out!

Rutgers is UConn…without a veteran QB. They should have a strong defense, and their O-Line is arguably the most experienced. Now, who's handling the snaps?

Louisville returns the most starters, but last year was a down year. Has Cardinal HC, Steve Kragthorpe, put together the right coaching staff to put the right personnel where they'll do the most good?

Syracuse…well, ya can't count em out. They're good for an upset at the most outlandish times. It's a sad state of affairs to think this storied program now "upsets" the teams they play.

Here's the worst of it. The entire league, one way or another has to look better than the MT West Conference (MWC). The BCS has established criteria, which in 2014 will guarantee the Top-6 performing conferences BCS births over the next 5 years. Beginning with last season, unless the Big East can out-perform a couple of the current "Big-6" as well, the Big East must at the very least out-perform the MWC, or it will forfeit their automatic BCS birth over the next 5 years starting with the 2014 season. Given the criteria has to do with the number of teams ranked in the Top-25 & Top-10, and given the Big East has only 8 members, that'll be the biggest challenge.

It's heat'n up! Can't wait to see who's up for take'n the crown. GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!!!!

Has anyone heard anything about Coley? I hope coach Stew has big plans for him and hope he does well in the coming years. I know we have to have a full team for any qb to prosper, but I am really hoping little bro comes to shine as well as Pat.

My unit will be in a refueling outage; I'm scheduled to work backshift. I'll actually have to count on my wife to record the game for me. I can only hope we'll be finished on schedule so I can watch the rest of the season. SUX!!!

Bad news/Good news: The Bad News: True Frosh, Gino Smith, had apparently out-dueled Coley White for Brown's backup. The Good News: Smith broke a foot; is expected to be out 6-8 weeks. We'll likely see Coley play some against Liberty. The Bad News: We'll likely also see Bradley Starks (WR) at QB some (originally came to WVU as a QB), to provide some added depth. The Good News: Starks has been playing WR and doesn't have a lotta reps at QB either. The big worry will be keeping Brown healthy until at least one of the others come along.

Nothing could be more true than to keep JB healthy. Should he go down, there will be a collective "gasp" across Mnt'EER Country...

Coley, Geno or Starks...??? Don't know. I do remember it was a bump on Bednerick's head that opened the door for Pat White, so you never know...

Quite frankly, I'm expecting them to beat VA Tech by a baseball score. Watchu tink?

Finally some action on the forum page. Howdy every one.

If you need your WVU fix, Hulu has the fiesta bowl for free viewing.

Mountaineers besides beating Pitt please also beat ECU. I can't take another year of ECU alumni wanting to paint my office purple.

Dave, good to see ya. WVU/AU will be season-setting this year, no doubt. How about the new QB? Are you still running the spread this season?

WV has a good chance at the East title even with Pat gone. But they are very shy in depth.

I will say WV will beat E Carolina and Colorado at home this year. I don't think they can beat Aubie this year though. Good luck anyways to the 'Neers.

Hey Man,

We are still running the spread. It will more of the traditional spread. I have no clue about Brown, the QB. They say he has a strong arm and can run okay. He has won a couple games when White was hurt. We play ECU in the second week which should be a good test for him. Are you ready for the Mountaineer invasion to your state?

Dave, Eagle3, hello again!!!

I'm not at all worried about Jarrett Brown. So long as he stays healthy, he'll be alright. My big worries are the offensive line and special teams. Though Don Barclay's status is that of "fully recovered," (seriously needed depth) they're still experimenting with who will start at Center. At this phase of practice, that much should have already been determined. Though the coaches appear to be pleased, I still find it worrisome.

Then, there's Special Teams, where there's a 2-way battle raging over who'll kick FG's. Thus far, it looks as if one is good at short yardage (<40); the other's good at long yardage (>40). While the punter is now etched in stone, how will punt coverage be; not to mention, how will kick-off coverage be?

Personally, I think the defense will be great, and the offense will do just fine. But, they've gotta settle on their 2-deep, O-Line, depth chart, and they've gotta tighten it up on special teams.

As for Auburn, that game will come soon enough. For now, bring on Liberty!!!
