Oakland, California, is a throwback city. Always has been. Always will be. A blue-collar city, appearing as if frozen in the 70's during an era when the Oakland Raiders rose to prominence.

As much as Al Davis loved speed, I think he forgot that the Raiders are a football team, not a track team. I ran 12.3 in the 100m dash in 8th grade which is pretty fast, but it doesn't mean anything for sports that require ball handling and control.

MARK DAVIS TO MODERNIZE RAIDERS
good speed good hands work good together. i hope the tradition continues. al davis was good at what he did. he went after players with speed in the draft that other teams gave not much of credit to. what mckenzie is thinking of doing is, going after players with good hands and good speed. that may cost a little more. but not a bad idea if you have the money.

Thats what all teams try to do. Good hands...good speed. What makes the difference is the talent evaluators...and luck. McKenzie is suppose to be a great talent evaluator...but our scouts are who need to be top of their game. Cause McKenzie will evaluate who our scouts suggest. I hate this part of the off season...all guesses and speculation...ready for preseason....6months away....grrrrr.

I hate this part of the offseason too...Who's still a Raider and who won't be anymore? Like somebody said in another thread...We don't have much of a draft to look forward to.

reports;
new RAIDERS coach dennis allen orchestrated a defensive turnaround last season as denvers defensive cordinator., and he made it clear at the nfl scouting combine that fixing oaklands (D) will be a "high priority for him. he also praised oaklands offense calling it a real challenge to defend". all signs point to a defensive heavy aproach to the draft and free agency.
