There was a couple of bad calls, sure, and a few missed kicks, and a couple of dumb plays (blatant push off in the end-zone)....

That game was handed right to the Steelers so "The Bus" could go out on top.

The article is a bit off-base. The blown call was NOT the holding call--the bloke basically tackled Clark Haggans--but Haggans was clearly offsides on the play. It should have been a free play for the Sea Pigeons, and the reception should have counted. Might indeed have turned the game around. I've watched this contest many times, and I believe it was the only truly blown play. The Big Ben TD was later proven to be a TD using laser technology (it was that close), and the offensive pass interference can't be said to be a blown call because it did actually happen, even if it was too paltry to be called in such an important game.

I don't really buy the idea of referees consciously conspiring to change the outcome of games. It's possible they may be unconsciously affected by some narrative (like, say, Peyton Manning's supposed ride into immortality in 2005 affecting Pete Morelli's judgment when he made that atrocious call regarding Polamalu's INT), but conspiracies of the nature you're suggesting would simply be too unwieldy and impossible to conceal.

i'd day #7 is within reach. camp is going well and D looks awesome as usual and ready to take back their #1 ranking. Anyway I don't see the bungles or ratbirds winning the division, the bungles always screw up after a good year and the ratbirds have no secondary.

And on top of all that, our friends in the media seem to be completely underestimating (in some cases completely writing off) the Men of Steel. If the past is any indication, they seem to rather thrive on that.

Agreed about the Sea Puffins play in that game, BTW. They might not have had to worry about the referees if their kicker could actually kick and if that TE wasn't so scared of Joey Porter that he kept dropping everything thrown to him.

The Bengals are faced with something this season that they didn't have to deal with last...a tough schedule. We'll see how they respond, but I'm predicting a third place AFC North finish.

They do have T.O. now, and they'll need him. I'm looking forward to the T.O./Ocho Cinco dynamic. Which one is going to be the bigger melodramatic loud-mouthed douche? For me, it's a toss up.

oh yeah you got that right. the entire nfl talking head community isn't even considering the black and gold. little do they know there is going to be some slobber-knockin football played this fall. the o line is looking really good in practice as is the special teams. the only weak link imo is the OC.
