i think a risk on Burress would be more than worth it if he can play for 12 games.

I really think Pace and Cutler could coax Holt into coming here, if Jerry was willing to pay (and we should have some cash now that we're not paying big bonuses to 1st round picks for 2009 and 2010).

If that doesn't work, Furrey is a great "value". He's relatively young, he can play, he's versatile, and he understands the concept of "team", which for most speedy receivers is a 4-letter word.

Jurevicious has been losing a step each year, and Toomer is the next Marty Booker in-waiting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, David Haugh is an excellent reporter/analyst. In this day and age of the dying newspaper, that's what is needed. He was right when he called for Cutler, and I bet he's right now.

Best football writer since I've been reading the Trib, going on what? 35 years or so?

If the Trib dies, Haugh will live on. And I usually comment to give writers a hard time.

We need to be looking for talent and mentors.

Talent - DJ Hackett or Lance Moore. My vote is Hackett because of his size and deceptive speed. His injuries are a big concern though. Moore's size is a concern.

Mentors - Either Holt or Harrison, maybe Toomer. I don't see a problem signing the best route runner since Rice...Harrison. Obviously both guys have age issues, but both would be upgrades.

So the solution is do not take any risks in 2009 on a receiver and if that doesn't work, take the risk in 2010?

If that's what it takes to get Lovie fired, I guess I don't mind. Otherwise, just take the risk now.

I know of a replacement with Illinois and Cutler ties that I wouldn't mind coaching the Bears.

It's nice to hear some sanity.
Why don't we hear more about Olsen as a huge, speedy target for Cutler? He creates a speed mismatch on OLBs and a height/speed mismatch on CBs. This is Olsen's breakout year and I can't wait to see the Bears screw with opposing defenses.
This will be a great year.

Kinda cool that Cutler takes it upon himself to recruit Pro-Bowl receivers. I like that leadership showing already.

Hey genius, I realize you're so much smarter than us, but how about offering Arizona the Bears 2nd round pick for Anquan Boldin?

I hope you know that is now correctly phrased Bear-dom and not Beard-om with Orton now gone. :)

If Burress comes to the Bears on a one year incentive laden contract, more than likely he would do very well. He would have every incentive to do well and every dis-incentive to not mess up.

Two words: Anquan Bolden. Pursue him now. Do whatever it takes to sign him. Also, I hope Pace still has some gas left in the tank. Draft a CB and defensive end who can get to the QB. Bears lack of a pass rush(er) has been brutal.

If you think the Cardinals will take a mid-2nd rounder for a Top 10 receiver, you don't know much about the NFL. IF (and that's a big "if") the Cardinals will trade Boldin (which is not their mindset), they're certainly not going to settle for a measly 2nd round pick from the Bears. I'm sure the Giants would trade at least a #1 and #3 for Boldin; they're that desperate, and there are probably 4-5 other teams hurting at WR and willing to make a similar deal. Thinking you're gonna get him for a 2nd round pick is like trying to buy a brand new Lexus for $1500.

If the deal you propose is available, the Bears most certainly should make it...but you couldn't get Roddy White for a #2, and he's no Anquan Boldin.

Bob in Breckenridge, it's "you're so much smarter than we" not "us". It seems unlikely we could get Boldin for a 2nd round draft choice. I agree wholeheartedly with Haugh. Buress would be bad news.

Does anyone besides me think that the Bears should consider trading Urlacher in a deal to bring in a wideout and maybe some much needed draft picks to fill the other holes this team has? Scoring 30+ points a game won't do a damn bit of good if we give up 40. Our secondary needs help!!!

Burress has played for 2 of the greatest franchises in the NFL and was unhappy on both teams!! Bears don't waste your time. Boldin for a 2nd round pick huh!? What color is the sky in your world because here on planet earth it's blue! Boldins asking price would be more than what the Bears could give up right now. They should make Holt their number one priority before the draft. Maybe they should check with the Bengals to what the asking price is for Chad Johnson? He's been unhappy playing for the Bengals but who wouldn't be unless your Ced Benson!

What are you going to get for Urlacher? He's going to be 31 and his salary would be a hit for the team taking him. If an older MLB was needed, people would have flocked to Ray Lewis.

Jesus people, THINK for a freaking second. For those wanting Boldin, Arizona isn't trading him. You can "target" or "go after" him all you want. It's not happening.

And Burress won't sign an "incentive laden" anything. he's going to be suspended for AT LEAST 8 games and he may be in jail. With his bullcrap attitude, he's going to be in big trouble for a long time.

Granted, Burress is a problem child. But has anyone considered that since the Supreme Court ruled that the DC gun law disallowing one from carrying was unconstitutional, that Burress may not or should not be prosecuted under an arguably unconstitutional NY law?

The issue in my mind is not one of breaking a law, but one of questionable judgement. Does Burress represent as big a headache for another NFL team as Mr. Haugh suggests? Or is Burress a player who can, if given a 2nd chance, become not only a beneficial member of the team, but also of the community?
