I would like the Bears to concentrate on the defense this draft, with 1 O-Lineman and 1 WR.

Cutler has not proved anything yet. If you look at some of the games he played in Denver, the dude made so many mistakes. He is a turnover machine and I don't see that changing. He has not been on a winning team since high school and has proved he is not a leader. The hype for this guy is unbelievable.

Of course Denver is going to release any statistic to soften the blow of their front office mismanaging a relationship with a Pro Bowl caliber QB in the prime of his career. What are they going to say? "Yeah we blew it."

8 TDs for Olsen (1 every other game)is a stretch but the 70 receptions is likely. I would much rather see Hester with 8-10 TDs than Olsen with 8 because those will be longer pass plays and that will stretch the field more for Forte.

With all the hoopla about Cutler the Bears can't lose sight of the need to have a solid backup RB behind Forte so he doesn't break down in his sophmore season. If the running game shuts down that will make things impossible for Cutler.

David Haugh,
You are a pretty good columinist for the BEARS. Trust me Im smiling too!! The Bears are loaded right now. This is a fact. Cutler on this team just extended the years of Urlaucher and Coach Smith and Gm Angelo. Plain and simple. Hester has the QB now to be better than what steve smith is. Greg olsen may very well make multiple Pro bowls. Matt Forte may have found his his fellow franchise labeled friend in Cutler. Lets see #22 Franchise RB,#6 Franchise QB,#23 Franchise WR. Need I say more!!

Good piece. But on point 10, I would start by signing Torry Holt.

Add to that a career losing record in college and the pros. Wow only if the game was played for stats than wins and losses then your post would look good, but it doesn't. I would rather have a winner.

Chris, do you realize that a football TEAM wins games? Perhaps one of the reasons for the Bronco's terrible scoring ratio last year in the red zone is because the field shortens, you HAVE to run the ball to be efficient there, and the Broncos backfield has been as messy as their defense. All this talk about him being 17-20 as a starter is baloney. Without him they would have been one of the worst teams in the league. With a serviceable defense, an improved line and Forte, he's going to do just fine. The simple truth is that this guy is one of the best QB's available via trade EVER. You're not getting Manning or Brady. This was quite simply a miracle that has turned this franchise legit for the next decade.

David,
How can you give Vasher an out when this guy is a terrible corner? If they manage to keep him when its apparent his injuries have eroded his questionable ability, it will be out the Bear's desperation.

They were running more, so he couldn't what, play football? You expect Cutler to aid in his defensive skills, right! He is neither a run stuffer as you stated, nor is he a cover corner either.

Most of the "interceptor's" picks are not a result of his shut-down coverage skills, so I ask you, when exactly did he become an asset? Nates a good guy, but a terrible corner, be true to your readers.

I feel that we just made a statement to all of the Nfl. For all of you nay sayer's. Just shut up and wait till the season starts. You to will see will see, what us true Bear Fans know. I do think that the 8 td's for Olsen is to much, i think it far to less. He's going to be Jay's number 1 target in the Red Zone. Hester can also pull in double digit Td's. I'm going to even say that the Bears Double there Td total this year. Sb.all the way. We want our Dynasty.

Really love your writing, but I have to completely disagree with #5. The most important position in team sports in the starting quarterback. The second most important position is the backup quarterback. We don't have a right to expect a decent one? As it stands now, the Bears season will be ruined if Cutler gets injured.

You want a proven winner?

Then why not sign Rex back as our starter, as he too has a winning record as a starting QB.

He even led a team to a Super Bowl.

We should also get Vick, who has won most of his games, led a team to a conference championship, and led a team to a championship in college.

And while we are at it, lets go and get Vince Young. He has a winning record in the NFL AND a national championship in college.

This whole "winner" argument is beyond absurd, because anyone with a brain would know that the QB cannot cover or tackle people on defense.

But a good defense can certainly cover-up the fact that a team has a mediocre QB who either turns the ball over too much, or who can't deliver a pass with accuracy beyond 12 yards.

Cutler played for one of the worst college programs in the country, and for a team with no defense.

But for some reason, any sane person would probably prefer him to any of the "winners" above, and certainly above Orton.

I have been a Bears fan for 45 years and I am as happy as any one that the Bears signed Cutler. But as for the poster who said "Hester has the QB now to be better than what Steve Smith is", give me a break...Smith is the toughest lb per lb receiver in the NFL. I can only hope that Devin can develop into Smith's mold.

As far as Haugh's list, I'm sick of hearing that we NEED to take a WR with the first pick.

The class of WRs is much deeper than the class of safeties, especially when you consider that most of the safeties this year are in-the-box types.

If a guy like Rashard Johnson is there, I'd much rather take him, then go after players who will likely fall in the third round.

And if someone like Larry English slips, I take him.

In fact, I think the team should trade down, so it can pick up another pick in the late third or early fourth.

You play the board -- not the position.

A Pro Bowl quaterback? Yeah right give me a break, everybody knows that Phillip Rivers should of been picked before Cutler. They made the selections with three weeks left in the season.

Let's see what Cutler did in those three games with only needing one victory to clinch a playoff berth:

282 yds a game
2 touchdowns
4 interceptions
74.2 quaterback rating

The guy folded like oragami. He is not a winner and never will be and he is the biggest head case in the league.

DAN from somewhere in Illinois.

You disagree with my comment that Hester can not be better than Smith ever was?
Interesting but When hester gets the ball things happen. Brother all those special team TOUCH DOWNS that Devin did in his first two years were by pure blocking correct? NEGATIVE. Watch the clips. Devin broke many tackles on his way to the end zone. The blockers simply did there job. Devin did the rest with his blazing speed and strength. Trust me when I tell you this. Im in the business were "toughness" is revealed. Devin has it and Jay helps bring that to the table. If Devin even has a step on a defender. Jay puts it in where Devin has a chance to catch it. IM a DIE HARD BEAR FAN brother. please no shout -outs.
