Ravens put Heap, Sapp on injured reserve

Trade Heap the minute he's healthy and get a uy who can stay on the field for more than 3 games a year. One of the biggest waste of money in the league. We pay a guy who hasnt played more than probably 10 games just about ever year.

OK...I know it's not really funny...but to put Heap on IR a day before the last day of the season just seems ridiculous to me. But so has the entire season, so why should this be any different, right?

How the tide changes. Todd Heap was the greatest tight end next Shockey last year. This year he was hurt and this town turns against him. How fast Baltimore fans can turn on a person. I'm sure if Cal had been hurt the fans would have ran him out of town also. No wonder no one wants to come here and play!!!!!!!!!!

I actually kinda agree with you on this one, Max-o-million. But by the same token, when you look at injuries around the NFL, doesn't it strike you as at least strange that a player with a strained hammy would miss virtually 3/4 of the season as a result? Be honest. It just doesn't quite seem to add up, man.

Beyond that, people can draw whatever conclusions they draw. The only conclusion I've drawn is that it just doesn't seem to add up. Either someone isn't being totally forthright about the nature of the injury (which does happen frequently in the NFL) or else it does make Heap appear to be "soft" with regard to battling through this type of injury.

What's interesting is that for as many hits as Heap has taken throughout his career (mainly because Ravens QBs are so inaccurate, and he constantly has to contort his body to try to get his hands on the ball) the inury of the strained hammy this year has nothing to do with the collective hits he's taken. It's not concussion related. Or bone/spine/impact-related. It's a strained hamstring, for crying out loud, that's derailed virtually 3/4's of his season. Stretch it. Wrap it. Massage it. Get a shot. And play. Or so it would seem, anyway. Other players seem to come back from hamstring pulls a lot sooner than this.

Do you honestly think he'd be on IR if we were in playoff contention right now? I don't know. Maybe not. But I have a feeling he'd find a way to play if there were more on the line. And as such, I think that opens up a player to the speculation/charge that he's being "soft". But feel free to disagree. It's an opinion issue, not something that's etched in stone.

Trust me I'm not crazy. Have you ever had a torn hamstring. That type of injury can take up to a year to heal. I just don't think he's being soft. That's just my opinion and you know what they say, everyone has one!!!!!

You could be right, man. And if you go back and look at any of my posts, I have not been leading any charge to trade Heap, and I haven't really even been saying he's soft. I'm just saying that for a professional athlete, with all the access he has to trainers, etc., it just seems odd to me that a strained hammy has derailed the better part of his entire season.

And if I'm not mistaken, there were also reports that it wasn't just his hamstring -- it was also his thigh that was injured as well. Well...which is/was it -- the hamstring? The thigh? Both?

And it also seems odd to me that after having already missed the last 3/4s of the season, he NOW goes on IR, a day before the last game of the season. As another poster pointed out, I'd be inclined to think it might, in fact, have something to do with his contract.

I also think it has something to do with the Ravens strength and conditioning coaches. The other week, Heap was quoted as having said the hammy felt ok, then in practice he "tweaked" it again. Again, I don't know if that fits any particular pattern or not. But how can it go from "ok" to "tweaked again"?

Like I said, I think a lot of the coaches and trainers for the Ravens ought to be seriously evaluated at the end of the season and anyone who isn't doing their job properly ought to be let go. This is ridiculous.

And I do think -- rightly or wrongly -- that if the Ravens were in contention, he'd be on the field tomorrow, and not on IR. Now, there is probably some logic to that, if in case it were to be true. Who know? All I know is that this season has sucked. Big time. And unless the Ravens do more than a little internal tweaking, the team is going to suck next year as well.

First of all, your statement about nobody wanting to come here and play is flat out ridiculous and inaccurate.

Secondly, Heap is a pansy and has shown it over a period of years. It isn't just THIS season.

also, Heap was never the "second best" tight end and Shockey isn't the best. Gates, Clark, Gonzales, and a few others are better than BOTH of these guys.

Max You made some good points most fans can tell you Heap is good TE,and at times has been virtually the whole pass offense.The injury is suspect,but I would rather him get healthy than risk getting hurt in a meaningless game.The whole team could go on IR for all I care.Sypnewski has promise as a receiver,but needs to work on his blocking.Heap is the best TE we have looking to next year.Hopefully,he can get healthy.He has been injury prone,but people forget what has done in the past for this team.He is class act,and displays humility(something other players on this team who celebrate after a routine
