SHELBURNE: USC-Notre Dame rivalry should be back to old form

Full story: Daily Breeze

One of the most historic, exciting nonconference rivalries in all of college football has been, for lack of a better description, pretty lame in recent years.

Why is the 2005 game always dubbed the Bush push. The Bush push was barely noticed, however in Notre Dames last game the Irish used a full mob to get the 2 pt conversion that was key to getting Notre Dame into OT against Washington and eventually winning. Notre Dame is extremely lucky to have won that game, and was done only because of several goal-line stands, and the mob push.
Although Notre Dame is improved their non-goaline defense is horrible! I expect USC will take full advantage. Go Trojans!!

Notre Dame will only get respect when it joins a conference and shares revenue like every other D-1 school. It is a joke that they play basketball and other sports in the Big East Conference, but are unwilling to share the football revenue in that conference. They were invited to join the Big Ten when Penn State joined and declined. In a conference, you play relatively strong teams week after week ..... ND picked a soft schedule this year to enhance their image from the past few years. No D-1 school should play them until they join a conference and start sharing revenue and stop getting preferred BCS treatment.

Weiss cracks me up...only in America can a fat, slovenly, ogre, who has done aqbosultely NOTHING in his chosen profession, can not only garner a HUGE contract, but basicall call out another coach who has WON two NCs, seven straight conference titles, and four straight BCS bowl games. "He's really evolved as a coach?" I guess that "evolution" reached full bloom last year when the Fat Man's offensive genius was shoved up his rather large gluteus maximus in the 38-3 butt kicking. Didn't ND manage their first first down in the 3rd QUARTER? Hey FAT BOY...what happened to that decided schematic advantage that you had? Or was his name Tom Brady?

Jack,

You got that right, SC sure shoved it up ND's arse in that one.

Please give the length of grass in 2005 a rest USC faithful. Both teams played on the same field that day and ND lost a DE to a knee injury in the same game. If you don't like the length of the grass in October USC is more than welcome to come in late November, but I am sure that wouldn't be suitable either.

I guess this was just pure class from Pete Carrol then?

CLAUSEN DENIES CARROLL CLAIM: USC head coach Pete Carroll made a comment on Tuesday that one of the reasons that Clausen selected Notre Dame over USC was the chance to get on the field right away.

Give me a break. Charlie was more than complimentary of Pete Carrol referring to him as a great coach.

How about this: "well he has more talent than anyone in the country except Florida but yet manage's to mess his pants every year against a far inferior opponent but then cries about being the best team in the country every year at the end when they are left out of the BCS title game" because that is what I would like to say.

And for the record it is one national title on the field (forget mythical AP split national championships in the BCS era). So Pete keeps the streak of underacheiving alive by laying another egg in Seattle!!

The reason Jimmy Clausen came to Notre Dame is because he wanted to be remembered as a Notre Dame quarterback. How many So. Cal Qbs do you remember in the last 50 years compared to Notre Dame's?

Hell, Clausen is getting more publicity now than all those other Heishman candidates put together.

The highest honor in college football,-- to be the Notre Dame quarterback, and Jimmy Clausen made sure he did not blow that one by going anywhere else.

Let see...answer me this Goirish29...How many national titles have ND won on the field. Hmm...let see. Well using your argument, that woule be a big goose egg (zero in case you didn't get it.) Thats right, I guess your team has never won a national title, considering the AP title is mythical. 1943, 1946, 1949, 1966, 1973, 1977 all mythical according to you.

An as far as underacheiving in Washinton...what can tell me about that game and the circumsatnces surrounding it besides "Washington was 0-12 last year" and "we beat them, when you couldn't". Besides UCLA, that was the only game I was worried about.

USC by 24...

FIGHT ON!!!

Come now, people. You have poor Charlie having things crammed up his "arse" and Mr. Carroll soiling himself. I'm about to be sick, here.
