At the beginning of camp who would have figured Don Barclay and Jarrett Boykin to make the 53 man roster? Even the Packers.com 's most recent depth chart had Boykin no higher than 4th at any WR position and Barclay no higher than 3rd at any of the o-line positions. I bet that changes, especially since the Packers only kept 7 O-linemen.

Im surprised given his suspension of 4 games and injury history that Mike Neal made the roster.
Phillip Merling got the backup spot to Raji and they released Muir which surprised me as well.Muir, although not a great player, played very well but Merling is a good size and quicker.
Packers made no waiver claims as of me typing this so hopefully they make a trade or at some point find a vet who was cut.7 Olineman just wont cut it,but, at least TT and MM both know that and hopefully, they can land someone one way or another.

Muir didn't last through Sept. with STL last year. Unfortunately I think he's on his last legs. I thought Neal played well when he was in--especially rushing the passer. Health is a concern... Boykin looks ready to contribute. Love his YAC skills.

I though with Neals 4 gamer, they would keep Muir at least until Neal is back.I do agree with you,Neal showed well, but as you touched on,Neal is hurt an awful lot so that is a concern for sure.As GBP fan touched on,7 olinmen on the roster now,so there should be a trade or a FA vet being brought in soon.Boykin beat out Gurley and Borel as he showed well.
I like the kid Richardson ( safety,,a bit over 6 ft 215lb or so and can run.Raji,Worthy,Pickett to start the season,Phillip Merling beat out Muir so does he concentrate on NT although he can play either end? I havent heard anything from CJ Wilson,so im assuming hes on the roster as well,so thats 5 def.linemen right there and with 6WR i do wonder if a player for player deal is in the works or is ita player for a draft pick.

The cut downs are not over yet. The Packers have 4 players on the PUP list, 2 on the suspended list, and they can designate one player on the IR list to return this season. That means the Packers may have to make room for as many as 7 players on the active roster. Some of the players that made the roster right now, may not be around for long.

Please Please get rid of Frank Zombo. The guy is a cripple. How many games has he played in the last 2 seasons?? I can count them on one hand!!Make room for others start by getting rid Of Frank Zombo.
Here's another idea trade Marshall Newhouse.
Do we all remember last year how he played??
Teams were getting past him like he wasnt even there.
Do you actually think he will be better this year??
I doubt it. Trade him and get someone better - Newhouse must go.Management- are you listening??

So who do you want at LT? Shrrod wont be back for 6 more weeks at least.
Newhouse was 1 year removed from the P.S.last year,so this year,he has that 1 year under his belt,so he should be better.
I agree with Zombo, when he plays,he pretty good and thats a big IF.Dont forget 1 thing though.
Erik Walden is suspended for game 1 and we need to release someone and make room on the roster for E.W. when he returns, thats when Zombo is prob. gone, get a LB back and release a LB.
IF ZOMBO makes the Walden cut,Neal will be back after game4,although Neal is a DE,there still has to be a roster spot for him, which means someone else gets cut.
The defense will be better, dont worry about that. Its just a matter of how much better.

I know the coaching staff is comfortable with Newhouse. More importantly, Aaron Rodgers is comfortable with Newhouse. If Aaron and coaches believe that Newhouse can cover the position adequately, that's good enough for me. I'm not saying I won't change my mind at some point in time, but some improvement is to be expected and Newhouse wasn't that bad. Like many young new starters he struggled at times, but he wasn't terrible. It's not fair to expect him to play as well as we got used to with Chad Clifton.

As I pointed out above, the Packers may cut several guys that are currently on the active roster. Zombo certainly is among the players that may go.

I agree with eric. It's not likely that the Packers will have the 32nd ranked defense again. Has any team ever had the last placed defense 2 years in a row? It's safe to predict some improvement. The question is how much improvement.

Your right, the question is how much but also the question is,will they peak at the right time like they did in 2010 and the NYG did in 2011?
As you pointed out many times GBPfan, NE only gave up a few yards less the GB and NE ranked 31st and NY ranked around 27 or so and they made the SB,so a decent improvement could make the huge difference.

Everybody seems to blame the Packer defense. Occasionally people credit the Giant defense with "peaking" at the right time. Certainly, the Giants defense did play reasonably well at the end of the seaon and in the playoffs. However, does everybody forget about the Giant offense "peaking" at the right time also? If the Giants offense (which led that team all season) hadn't picked it up at the end of the season, where would the Giants have finished? If the Patriots Wes Welker catches one pass and Mario Manningham drops one, the Super Bowl could have easily had a different result. That is how important "offense" was to the Super Bowl! Championships are a TEAM accomplishment. You can't seperate one part of a team for credit or blame. If the Packer's offense had played the same way they had weeks earlier against the Giants, the Packers would have won that playoff game.

That might be, but, it can be said if GB defense played a bit better they could have gone further in the playoffs.NO, dropping 6 passes didnt help GB cause, but, giving up a hail mary TD at the end of the 1st half didnt either.
YOu are right,if Welker made that catch with 3 Minutes left,NE prob. wins that SB.They would have had the ball inside NY 20,under 3Minutes or so and a FG would have put the game almost away,as they could have eaten clock to under 2 Minutes, but, Welker didnt catch the pass and it is what it is.
Did you hear the N.O. players have been cleared to play?
Cant wait to see Chic./Indy play,,going to be interesting to see Det and Minn as well.Im pretty interested in seeing how much Minn. has improved.Dont know how much better the record will be but last year Minn lost a hand full of games with 17 pt leads in the 2ned half and with some experience if Minn wins most of those games, that puts them considerably better. They finished 3-13,if they win say 2 of those handful, thats 5 wins, being better, they win another 1 or 2,so that puts them at 6 or 7,so not bad ( although i think 7 wins maybe a bit high for Minn. but 6 wins is certainly in reach)

Haha.I think Minnesota will be ok this year.Id love to see Minn beat Chicago for sure! Our resident Bears fan wouldn't be to happy about that, but, we would chuckle.I wouldn't count on that but if anyone takes Minn. lightly, they will get bit on the ass and dropped with a loss and that includes GB.After all, that's why they play the game right?

I think the Giants lost because of that 25th ranked defense. A team can't win a Championship with a defense like that. The Giants offense can't win every game!

Not when they're dropping first down catches all over the place. They are hurting at corner, too. Wish we could play them soon, rather than later. But give Romo credit. He played a hell of a game.
