First-game jitters not a problem for Vikings coach Leslie Frazier

Full story: TwinCities.com

Leslie Frazier slept just fine the night before his NFL head-coaching debut, thanks largely to his team's preparation during the week and his mental exercises Saturday night.

At this point, is it better to play for respectability or draft picks? We probably don't have a shot at Ryan Mallett or Jake Locker anyway...oh well, might as well win.

Maybe, if the Vikes want to package a player and/or a pick to move up, depends how bad they want them.

What about Newton, or even Moore from Boise? Ton of QB's in this draft, not all are gonna be great but I imagine a couple will be, just gotta sift through the talent and nab the right one, kind of like a crap shoot. Hell Pryor could end up being good as well.

I hope they can get a QB in the first round and one of these lineman, maybe Carimi or Reynolds(if he comes out), Castonzo, or Solder(long shot he will be around in the second,) will be available in the second round.

Newton probably is the best option for Minnesota. Why not package something and try to get Kevin Kolb from Philly?? I'd even take a flyer on Matt Leinart, he would be cheap and I bet Arizona would have been a lot better with him than what they have now. Im still scratching my head on the Leinart dumping by Arizona.

Erie, so much depends on whether the underclassmen enter the 2011 draft. Some of these guys have eligibility until 2012 - I think. If the youngsters come out, then the Vikings have a shot at landing a good prospect. I would expect Luck, Locker, and Mallett all to be picked in the top 12 or sooner. Ponder, Delvin, and Stanzi are interesting, but I don't see these guys as elite players. I'm not sold on Newton, Kaepernick, or Pryor because of the offenses they run.

Everyone is worrying about which qb to draft but reality is this ...... Vikes play like gangbusters the rest if the way , whether that leads to a fluky 9-7 playoff spot remains to be seen . Either way without Childress , combined with the strong finish favre comes back AGAIN rejuvenated more motivated than ever and we will all love him again when we pull off an unlikely superbowl triumph. Unless of course this year ends in a highly unexpected superbowl triumph in a rematch with the patriots? I hope sooooo bad the Monday nighter with the bears is fir a chance to go 7-7 then who knows maybe a 9-7 is good enough. Remember we play both the eagles and giants and with the bears tough schedule (.patriots, jets,Vikings, packer s and even lions ) we may be just one HUGE falcons win at buccaneers away from having a 9-7 make the NFC playoffs.. Don't stop believing fellow vikes fans let's win our games and get it done. GO VIKES GO !!!!! SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!!

I'm one of those skeptics that just isn't buying Leslie Frazier or the Vikings after one game with the dreadful Washington Redskins. In fact, I could make a good case that the Vikings had no business winning that game - allowing a punt return for a touchdown that was wiped out by an unnecessary penalty (the Viking guy wouldn't have even gotten there), or the 2 football field underthrow McNabb made to a wide open (I mean, wide open), Armstrong who was clearly endzone bound. This was another poor performance by another poor offensive team who found some other poor shlub that was willing to do whatever it took to give the Vikings a win. Several Redskin players lamented that this was the third game they lost to a team with a losing record. I don't see the Vikings finishing 9-7, and this team has major question marks heading into next season.

You are correct I am optimistic perhaps many would say unrealistic and delusional, but reality is we are a very good home team and with three in a row we can be 7-7 . I've been a fan of the NFL long enough to know that it's a short season at the same time it has a way of always being a long season as well. We have all seen 6-0, 5-1,7-4, and 8-3 's turn into 9-7 and 8-8 we have also all seen 2-3 , 2-5 , even 4-7 's go on to make the playoffs . I'm just saying we control our fate a little bit and winning in December should be the main focus. Also the vikings played composed and urgent against the redskins and even if that punt return did count we drove the field anyway and probably would have won 24-20 if not maybe 23-20 in ot. Just don't overlook the bills and we could be alright.

Hey, Kolb is a good pocket passer, I wouldn't balk at that move, good point.........

Right on, just trying to get some dialogue going about the draft.........anything positive at this point to keep my interest, y'know? Been disappointing. Plus I am no Mel Kyper, I just take a brief look at the top prospects and go from there, I like to hear what other fans have to say.

NOW that is what I am talking about, lol, you are the eternal optimist!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't mind Favre back but I think that lightning he packaged and put in a bottle was used up last year. Never know with this guy though!! No matter what, EVEN IF HE DID RETURN Vikes need to draft a QB.

I am not sure 8-8 would get them to the next stage.

Thing about Delvin is he shows all the necessary physical and mental skills to succeed on the next level, I think he is kind of intriguing: 6"4' 222 lbs., strong arm with a quick release (which is so important for a QB to possess to make it in the NFL.) HE IS ALSO A GREAT ATHLETE AND RUNS WELL. He was originally at PSU, they usually recruit decent QB's, solid ones at least, I know not a great deal go on to become NFL stars but this kid has the right tools.

I am a huge fan of the "football player" that is Favre but even I am a bit pessimistic OF A RETURN SEASON Harry.

One thing you have to admit though, the guy hasn't and doesn't give up, he was as enthusiastic about that win as if they had just won the division. Gotta love that zest he has for the game itself. He is a PURIST.

Totally the "Iron Man".

Tom Landry commented YEARS ago that it is iffy to keep an older QB around.........

Landry said all the skills vanish at once. The throwing, the reading, recovering from injury..........

No question Favre is tough. But he is done.

Actually, in this case, old iron heals slower, moves slower and hits on little honeys who resemble their wives.

But hey-we've all been there.

2009 was fun, it was a huge gamble, and it was eventually a bust.........but time moves on....
