No surprise at the outcome of this game.

After all, turtles DO lay eggs, don't they?

The football and basketball teams always seem unprepared and undisciplined. They remind me of an old rerun of the Keystone Cops films. It is embarrassing to be a Terps alumnae at times.

Maybe it's time for a change at the top. If the coach can't figure his team out, find somebody who can. Ralph had a good run at the beginning of his tenure that peaked fans' expectations, but maybe time has passed him by, and he has lost touch with how to motivate the new-age athletes.

The version in the printed Baltimore Sun talks about a bad ACC Championship Game and Orange Bowl because teams like BC and VT are still in the hunt, whereas MD is not. I almost forgot that BC actually took care of business against FSU on the road, and that VT ran the ball down MD's throat on a Thursday night. Yes, what undeserving teams they are...

When you have a chance to Win A Championship and go to the orange bowl you had better be self-motivated. The coach can only motivate so much. FSU players wanted it more than the TERPS. What do the "new age athletes" need a psychiatrist , a guru what??? I think they need Desire and I believe Coach Friedgen has more desire than most Coaches. So don't blame the Coaches when you get frustrated. You have to want it as bad as the other team does every week. Hopefully they will want it aganist BC. GO TERPS.

Sounds like you hit it squarely on the head Rick. An embarassing loss at home that defies explanation.

Not sure if you know, but BC lost its QB and in the second half, minus that amazing last drive, BC only had one first down. Also, FSU was without 5 wide receivers...how bout dem apples?

I consider myself in good company. Last week I thought the Terps would show up for Florida State, too. Responsibility for this team's performance rests with Ralph and his staff. He has raised the expectations bar higher than it was eight years ago, but clearly is not capable of delivering performance to match those expectations.

Where were there 5 wide-receivers, did they miss the charter?

Well whatever the case, they outplayed the Terps at Byrd, so I'll give them their due. They executed and we did not.

Turtle soup.

I don't know how to feel about UM. I had never been to a game until this year. This year I went to two (Delaware and North Carolina). In a way, I wish they would do better. But I read yesterday's BS (how appropriate). They were talking sellout, how UM fans might not make two trips to Fla. with the ACC champioship and the Orange Bowl. Maybe if the Terps would crawl before they walk, things like the Orange Bowl would come their way. Other than parking, I had a great time at both games. Only Div. I game around.

The Terps seem to just not be there in the games that can truly put them in the next category. A few years ago it was losing to Wake and then last year it was losing to UVA in the last minute. This year thay have had 3 games, two against the acknowledged leaders of the ACC and they don't even show up. Either poor preparation or the players, while willing, just aren't at that level. Hopefully, the new offensive coordinator along with new recruits can get over this hump. These aren't the Bobbi Ross / Jerry Clairborne Terps of the 80s; but, then again, they're not the Roy Lester / Bob Ward Terps of the late 60's either.

The Terps are like most every other ACC team. Up and down and somewhere between the 20 and 45th best college team in the country.

Firing Ralph will not likely lead to any long term substantuial improvements. There is nothing intrinsically that great about MD's faciltities, fan base, high school football that would make anybody suggest that MD is the place to build a dynasty.

An occasional orange bowl drive and the top half of the ACC is about what is fair to expect. Sometimes it is best to change the driver just for the hell of it just to keep fresh.

If this is the end for Ralph, he will be the best the Terps have had since Bobby Ross.

Thinking outside the box

One of the best things that could be done for U of M football is the improvement of the high school programs in Baltimore City. The city athletic facilties are not good. My guess is the academic support, mentoring and guidance is minimal. The coaching might not be good either. I would imagine lots of potential prospects don't materialize or even play football in Baltimore City because of a lot of these factors.

Instead of donating to the Terrapin Club, Terp fans and resources could upgrade a high school a year in the city. More home grown blue chip recruits would come to MD that way.

Based on their performances over the past couple of years, seems like Maryland should find a new football, basketball and lacrosse coach. They all seem to have been to the coaching school of, "I can't figure out what's happening or how to motivate the team!"

What'sfunny is I fully expect the Terps to come out nad play well at BC on Saturday and quite possibly win.I was one of the posters who said, and you can look it up,that after the Middle Tenneesssee State game,I expected the Terps to win 7 or 8 games and go to a decent bowl game. No,we aren't going to the Orange Bowl but we don't get the recruiting classes that Frank Beamer and Bobby Bowden do either. We have a very good recruiting class coming in next year and I actually expect this team to be better than this year. With Steffey out of the picture hopefully both Portis and Turner with another year under his belt along with the promise both Scott and Megget showed we will have a top ten offense. My biggest complaint has and always will be Chris Cosh. You can't play ten yards off teams like Florida State with big talented recievers and expect to win.Cosh has to go,he stinks. We were banged up again on the offensive line and just don't match up well with Florida State, that fumble changed the whole game even though I still think he was down and his forward progress was clearly stopped. The officiating was awful. But so was our playcalling on both sides of the ball.

I think you are taking Freidgen's comments to literally. I can't really speak for the lacrosse team in and of itself, but in terms of Football -- under Ralph they have been invited to 5 bowls in 7 years, and most likely will be in one this year. Before Ralph, their last bowl invite was 1990. In basketball, Williams just two years ago had his team at 25-9 and won one game in the NCAA tournament. Overall the last few years have been a bit of a dissapointment, but we are also in the flux of the newly aligned ACC. In addition, the NCAA Tournament is inviting a lot of the smaller schools which is good for them, but some traditional teams have not made it when they would have in the past. Not to make an excuse or use that as one, but I expect Williams to get the Terps on track in the course of this year and next.
