The league office has been cweepin' up on tackling for years. Before they're done, players will kiss and smile for the cameras instead of colliding. The sport will go the way of boxing under Don King. All competition will be scripted, and oversized louts will climb in a ring and fall over each other. No running fast or far, only simulated hits. Toughness, guts and skill are SO outdated.

Meriweather is a thug and a punk.

I'll never forget him trying to stomp on that FIU player's head in that infamous brawl. It takes a true lowlife to do something like that.

It's a good start, though. Let's hope they follow through on their promises about future suspensions.

None of this will happen. Players in the old days were far tougher, and to them "hitting" meant either tough blocking, hard rushing, or tough tackling. Modern players rarely tackle, especially prima donna defensive backs; they prefer to act as human missiles and hope that a massive collision or forearm will knock down and disable their opponent. Of course, if they miss or bounce off or fail to knock their guy down, he goes for a big gain or a touchdown. Tackling by wrapping up an opponent and dragging him down is a thing of the past.

You'd know that if you had any experience in playing or watching football.

<quoted text>Yeah and why can players put a knee on the ground when they're giving thanks to the "god of thugs" but Jared Allen can't put his knee down when he gets a sack?? So now the NFL picks and chooses what is excessive celebration?? Thugs giving gang signs and imitating praise to god is OK but don't imitate roping a calf. Pathetic........
I hate celebrations almost as much as celebration penalties. For god's sake, guys, act like you've been there before and made a play. All this cheesy acting makes you look like pro wrestlers.

IF they delay the game, or taunt too much, then flag them for delay of game or unsportsmanlike. Special celebration penalties are stupid. Most of it could just be ignored.

The simple truth is, most pro athletes have no class.

Now Harrison's whining about "retiring," since the league won't let him play football the way he was taught. Waa-aaahh!

You were taught WRONG, punk. Learn to tackle and stop trying to break peoples' necks. Duh!
