Bledsoe was a more than solid QB. But the truth is, toward the end, he refused to check down or throw the ball away when the deep routes were covered. He was still capable of big numbers, but he held the ball, and held the ball, and held the ball...SACK! He was a total statue, so teams were able to easily take advantage of knowing where he would be every time he dropped back to pass. There was zero movement in the pocket. He had the arm, but not the release of a Dan Marino. He also never had that quick, one step that Marino had that gave him that extra 1/2 a second. Guys like Bledsoe are dinosaurs in this league. They belong in the studio with Bill.

It's a bit of a stretch to say the Patriots were going to St. Louis - the NFL opposed the move, the team was frozen in Foxboro by their lease deal with Foxboro Stadium, and Bob Kraft was going to become the team's owner no matter what because he was (and is) too smart for everyone.
Nonetheless Drew Bledsoe, far more than Bill Parcells, is why the Patriots became a legitimate contender in the 1990s.
