Interesting if true. I get this out of this story: that either (a) the Packers feel that Jermichael Finley didn't have a good enough year to earn a big free agent contract, or that (b) they are willing to let him leave in exchange for getting trade value for Flynn.

Odd gamble. Since there is absolutely no way Flynn begins next season as a Green Bay Packer. Via free agency or trade, he's going to be starting for someone else.

I don't believe it. The franchise amount is estimated at about 14.5 million dollars for QB. If no other team wants to pay Flynn THAT kind of money, the Packers have to pay him that. We all know that would be disasterous for the Packers. I don't see Ted Thompson taking the risk of screwing up the team's salary structure and cap situation on the gamble that other teams see Flynn as an elite QB.

If the Packers pull that off and it works it would be genius I guess, but if it doesn't we can say goodbye to a lot of Packer players and hello to a lockerroom of pissed off Packer players that don't leave.

I cant see Ted doing that either.Look what happened to the Brewers when they offered Arbi to K Rod,now the Brewers are stuck with a 14M setup guy.
Let Flynn Go and wish him best of luck, but, id also let Finley go unless hes willing to sign at a good TE price.last I heard,he wanted top WR money ( around 9M per) and if that's true,Maybe he can get it somewhere,as long as its not in GB.
If Finley wants near top TE pay,I can see it.Also consider.Jennings is coming up again soon.Mathews,Raji,Pickett is coming up soon and Scott Wells is due after this season and since he made the Pro bowl and is considered an upper level center, there's a decision to be made there as well.

Got to agree with you. Flynn would cost the Packers too much to keep in this scenario. He deserves a shot at being a starting QB. If I were Mike Holmgren and the Cleveland Browns I think he would be a great fit for them. As far as Finley goes I'd like to see him stay. However, at TE money not WR money. He is able to stretch the field from the TE position but I am concerned by the number of drops. I would rather have a TE who cathches the ball consistently.

Id love a TE that can block.Does make you wonder why Ted drafted the TE out of Arkansas a year ago ( wonder if they fiqured JF would leave and if they have that opinion still or not).
Id love if they signed Flynn and traded him so they can get something, but, shit happens,Ill just wish him the best.
The Packers have had qb leaving GB and starting for other teams for over 2 decades now,so im hoping the streak keeps up..
Did you read,McKenzie in the front office may become the Raiders new GM and he will take his asst. with him? Our qb coach is a candidate for a few HC jobs in other places, im kind of surprised its taken this long before teams started raiding the cupboards. It sucks, but, its nice to see coaches and staff moving on and being promoted ect.Sucks for us,but, its nice to see it.

I would love to try and trade Flynn and a second round pick to try and move up in the draft. Maybe to get Courtney upshaw out of Alabama and get a solid DB with our later 1st rounder. Signing finley at 9 mil per would be insane considering we didn't have him all of last year and won the superbowl.

I agree 100% Num! Except Andrew Quarrless broke and damaged a leg,so thats 2TE gone if Finley leaves,That leaves Tom Crabtree who isnt very good receiving but a very good blocker and the 2 rookie TE they drafted last year nad neither did a whole lot but yea if Finley wants WR money send him packing.I do also agree,id love to trade Flynn as well, but, you would have to franchise Flynn which puts him way up there in salary and god forbid if we get stuck with him, then we have 2 big salaries at QB.

I don't know about Quarless, how he'll be when he comes back, but I know that everyone was real high on D.J. Williams. He just may be the starter of the future.

I believe TT drafted 2 TE last year because he expected or expects Finley to leave. They carried 5TE on the roster and 1 of them played emergency LB.
D.J.Williams,Ryan Taylor and Tom Crabtree,,not exactly a scary list is it,but,if Finley goes and Quarless cant play anymore ( unless TT drafts another TE or finds a vet via FA,thats the list im thinking)

Assuming Finley leaves, will the Packers really have that much trouble finding another TE to drop the ball? Just kidding. As I said, the franchise amount for a TE is projected at 5.4 million this offseason. The Packers don't have to pay him more than that if they want him to stay.

The Browns are going to get RG3 in the NFL draft. I could see either the Redskins or Jaguars.

I hope not or he will def. be gone.I was listening to McCarthy's end of season press conference and he holds Finley in very high regard and expects Finley to grow every year into a probowl quality TE,so going on that the Franchise tag may be used on him.
Sam Shields lack of experience at corner and his tackling was what kept Charles Woodson at corner,CW was very close to moving to FS replacing Nick Collins after his injury. Its still out there about moving CW to safety so im expecting the Packers to use a high pick on a corner.
Also,a quick article on Mike Neal who in his first 2 years in GB much was missed injured nad he did play in the last few games healthy but not back 100% but expects after an offseason ( where he is healthy 100 and healed 100%) to gain strength in his knee, he and the staff expect him to be the pass rusher and qb pressure we sadly were missing this past season, although id still expect a high pick or a FA on a DE. Corner,DE and OLB.

Maybe they can work out something with Joe Philbin in Miami.

If by "they" you mean Matt Flynn and his agent, I'm sure they might. If you mean the Packers, then "they" better not! Because the only way the Packers can do anything to stop Flynn is if they place a franchise tag on him. Placing the franchise tag on him would be suicide.

TT should franchise Flynn, as Philbin will want him in Miami, and to just let him walk would be a wasted investment. Finley won't get top WR $. He's a bit of a TO-TE in most teams eyes....& then the drops. He doesn't break many tackles either, a tall Bill Schroeder.

Problem is,if you franchise Flynn,he gets the average pay of the top 5 qb's,so Flynn will have a HUGE price tag and it would be doubtful anyone would sign Flynn at that price, there for wouldnt trade for him as well..( im not saying Flynn will never get there).Once someone gives Flynn a nice FA deal and if he plays well for a few seasons, theres no reason he wont get a nice payday.

If I was Joe Philbin I would be praying that the Packers put a franchise tag on Matt Flynn. Then Joe would know the Packers aren't willing to pay Finley 5 million. The Dolphins could sign Finley who is better than any Dolphin TE. Joe would know that the Packers couldn't afford to keep Flynn on the team at elite QB money, so he could offer to take Flynn off the Packers hands IF the Packers throw in a draft pick or two AND agree to pay part of Matt's salary. That would work out really well for the Dolphins.
