This is what makes the news? Signs from a horribly geriatric, passed his prime, coach? The signs are there: retire. Your team will thank you once they get past their brainwashed hero worship.

Sorry guys, but you don't have a clue. JoePA is just as sharp as he was in the 1970's ... and speaks to the press in the same guarded manner as well. He was Columbo before Peter Falk brought the character to TV ... and still is!

More of the same. Penn State loses to Alabama, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State and Wisconson. Nothing changes with the same old tired faces running the program. The head coach doesn't recruite. The offensive coordinator doesn't recruite. And we lost Al Golden to Miami.

We never had Al Golden to begin with!

Penn State will start 4-1 with a loss to Alabama and wins against the weak and defenseless Indiana State, Temple, Eastern Michigan, and Indiana. As usual the Blue and White Koolaid sniffers will start dreaming of the BCS game that they won't get once they finish either 3-4 or 4-3 against stiffer competition. Frank will write about the injuries and the other "what-ifs" that will go along with losing to quality opponents. Joe will be steadfast that he can coach until he is 100, and some bowl sponsored by a pizza maker will come calling. Frank will write about the real "positives" that came out of the season and how Penn State was "this close" to becoming an elite team.

Just another year of PSU football, exactly the same as the last.

I'm not going to bash Joe, but there is a time to allow the program to move forward. Ask Florida State the difference a new staff can make. They overacheived in 2010 and recruited real talent for the future. They are not simply MAINTAINING a program like PSU...they are BUILDING one.

Don't check him for telltale signs - check for vital signs, like a pulse.

All these comments have some truth.Penn State has had a good recruiting year. Right now they could be on the verge of becoming a "top team". This year
will tell a lot about JoePa. He deserves this shot.
If it doesn't come about, and remains mediocre- then
overhaul the coaching staff. I believe that PSU will peak-up this year, and bring some surprises.
Experience is a great teacher, and achiever.
Experience; sure hope you are not talkin' about JoePa, as all his experience sure as hell has not paid off in recent decades. By the way, which GEORGE is appearing on this thread. The dumb one - or - the other dumb one? Cannot be two (2) George's that stupid; or can it???

Nice try dumba$$. Just like Penn state you REFUSE to do what it takes to WIN. Be original, for once in your miserable blue & white life, you loser.

I'm so old I went to Journalism school when they taught, and remember when writers wrote, in paragraphs, not sentences.

I wonder what "Paterno sucks" will be doing when he (or she?) is 84 years old. I wpnder because by then Paterno Suck's mom will surely be dead, so s/he won't still be sitting in mom's basement blogging and masturbating to porn all day.

Hey MORON, you keep saying the same thing over and over, that PSU isn't a National Title contender. No one here is arguing with that. They are a 6-8 win team and maybe will play in a lesser bowl. So quit your constant trolling BS and GROW UP!!!

"up-and-coming stars get stuck on the sideline (see LaVar Arrington, 1997; see Khairi Fortt, 2010"

Arrington was not stuck on the sideline. They created a way to get him on the field as a frosh. Did he start? No The coaches first tried him at safety which did not last long. In 1997, the coaching staff basically installed a nickel defense. Penn State use to always play base defense regardless of the situation. In '97, they decided to put LaVar on the field as a 4th LB in obvious passing situations. He got good quality PT as a frosh. Fortt was wasted last year but some of that was due to his stinger problems. He was on the field in the bowl game at crucial moments of the game.
