Good theory but I disagree with the plan. Urlacher is not chopped liver yet. Part of the reason he was ineffective was because our d-line wasn't getting in the back field and he constantly had to fight off o-lineman. If we can get the most out of our o-line this year, you'll see a better season out of Urlacher. But we do need to pick up a player that can play outside LB. Hillenmyer and Roach are okay but not good enough.
I also agree that we need to play Bennet and see what he can do. I'm actually hoping that we get a big play receiver and have Bennet play in the slot. Our receiving corps would be significantly better than it was last year.

Mr. Optimist:
I just got off the phone with Mrs. McCaskey and she agrees with me 100%. Bennett can't play the slot because he lacks experience in finding seams in the zone. Mrs. McCaskey agrees with that assessment too.

Hass is gone. Seattle scooped him up as fast as they could.
Not exactly true. He was signed to a future contract and it is for the Practice squad. Now you be sure to let me know if he ever does anything in the NFL like make a single catch in a real game. Or how about even makes a single start.

get the best available talent at WR at no. 18. get a game breaker like Percy Harvin. Who cares if he's too much like Hester. You can use either one as tradebait later in the year. This team is not going to get any game breakers via trade or FA, so if you're going to draft an offensive player, draft someone who wants the ball and can score!!! They will never get anyone like him in free agency. Imagine Hester running the deep route and Harvin underneath as a possession receiver.
It's not that he is to much like Hester, it's he plays the same position as Hester. There both flankers or the z reciever. Now both can play the slot or Y position but that still puts them on the same side of the field, the strong side. The other problem is they don't have a Split End or a X reciver, this is usually the bigger reciver who plays on the line of scrimage and can beat a Jam. Harvin cannot beat the Jam and is not the endzone threat you like at that position. Recievers should compliment eachother not be twins.

So even if they took Harvin he would probably end up inthe slot and you don't draft a slot reciever with the 18th overall.

Bears need to draft a big WR with good hands - Derrius Heywood-Bey from Maryland would be a great pick. I agree with those before that Earl Bennett needs a shot - spend every pick after the 18th on OL-man.

Bears fans are real dumb. How many bombs did Jerry Rice catch in his career? Very little. Turner must create an offense that utilizes the players strenths. Not what focus on whatthey can't do. Get it? U cannot stop a slant pattern in the NFL, but the Bears almost NEVER use that simple play. Just one example of why Ron Turner is so bad as an OF.

The Bears are going to lose no matter who they draft.

False. You stop slants by jamming (or playing close up on the WR) and/or by having the the outside LB play that zone. This was the fault of Babich last year. He thought he could blitz the opposition to stop them from hitting those slant routes when that was the very reason they were throwing them. Which in turn made our defense look very silly. If our CBs would play closer to the WRs (not jamming them) and have outside LB slide over to that zone, that would have made the QB hold the ball longer giving our pass rush more time to get to the QB.

I'm happy to be the first to post this:

"Bears agreed to terms with OT Kevin Shaffer on a three-year contract.
A 47-game starter for Cleveland from 2006-2008, Shaffer has been durable throughout his career and can play both tackle spots. His strength is in the run game, making Shaffer a good fit in Chicago. He will likely be penciled in at swing tackle behind LT Chris Williams and RT Frank Omiyale for now."

That's what I'm talking about. This is a good pick up for us.

If Crabtree, Macklin, or Heyward-Bey are still there at 18 you have to take one of them!! If not I can see Angelo trading down and getting Britt or Nicks later while adding another pick!! Not impressed with Percy Harvin! His stock is fallen!

Glad to see the Bears are targeting a WR anyway. Why spend another first round pick on a tackle when we just drafted Chris Williams with our No. 1 last year! Take a safety in the second round, OL in the third, and DL in the fourth round!!!

GO BEARS!!!!!

Yeah him and Hass are the greatest recievers ever. Except nobody else wants them and they can't get off the practice squad on a team desperate for reciever help. Thats always a good sign.
If the don't Grab Britt in round 1 he is gone before they can round 2. 4.4 is flying for a guy his size.
Yeah and you are entitled to your opinion. I think the guy has had a raw deal now be honest old Booker and Butterfingers Davis are really better alternatives? I don't think so. This team continues to fail to develop players.
