For 13 seasons, through a parade of head coaches, their assistants and hundreds of teammates, punter Shane Lechler has been a constant on the Oakland Raiders.

I really hate to see Lechler go, but if he's gonna demand money, then it may be best for our team if he goes and we go with King. The fact that he's in right with Allen, may indicate that he'll stick around at a cheaper price.

I would be happy with King based on what I've seen him do so far (which isn't a whole lot). I would rather have Lechler--and who wouldn't--but we need the money right now during this rebuilding phase and you can't afford to pay a punter a lot of money.

I kind of think he knew this was happening since they kept King on IR last year. Age may be catching up to him. Plus there were a lot of instances where he didn't have to punt as far this last year as he did in years past.

Seriously thought, As much as I like Lechler, We can't afford to pay a punter a lot when we need to invest in other positions.

Agreed. Lechler has been awesome for us. Part of the reason for his decline is our offense didn't leave as many long punt opportunties, so his average went down. But where we are as an organization, it would make sense to relase him. I had much respect for lechler and happy to keep him, but at what cost?

I doubt we ever invest in a punter like that again. Its pretty easy to get one every year and we need to spend the money elsewhere. Not to mention Ray Guy didn't even get nominated for the hall of fame this year
