Why is a team that has basically won nothing....still made up of the same basic players from 5 to 8 years ago on defense?

I just hope bowman picks up where he left off in the game he got injured in, he was a beast in that game. I see him starting if Tillman doesn't recover in time. I am not saying he is an improvement over Tillmen but he definately has potential to be great.

Ok David, whatever you say.

This guy has a tremendous grasp of the obvious and the otherwise uninteresting. When will the tribune hire a real reporter and competent columnist to cover the bears?

Wooly thinking and lousy writing by Haugh doesn't get it done.

He needs to be replaced.

Not to change the subject, but if the Bears were to sign Vick (Mike Mulligan, Suntimes)....that's it, I'm done...pickin' a new team.

Sorry, I just didn't feel like registering on the "other" site...

It could be old home week for Lovie if he brought in Travis Fisher for a tryout. Last year Adam "my career's over" Archuletta and this year Piatisamoa. Otherwise, I'm fine with what the Bears have at corner. All those guys: Bowman, McBride, and Corey have been with the Bears over 2 years. Time to finally see what Jerry Angelo drafted. I think the Bears think the same way. During this years I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the Bear draft choices the past 2 years start getting more time. Steltz, Marcus Harrison, Mark Anderson. Are they the problem or the solution.

Dbs have been angelos strength when drafting since his tampa days, with the exception of manning who has been a bust so far, and i agree bowman has star potential and will benefit from extra reps. don't expect moore to play much unless he excels on special teams for now, he's too short to cover players like the one on detoit.

david is right on this one. If the front four brings constant pressure than darrel green and deion sanders came come out of retirement and play for the bears!! We can afford the temp loss of peanut if that front four brings the heat!! IF NOT than WE have a PROBLEM. Defense will get torched for about 24-27 points a game and Cutler is gonna throw for 5,000 yds this season. Fun to watch but I rather enjoy Defense allowing 10-12 points a game and offense throwing up 24-28 points a game!! You feel me???

there's a hell of a lot more practice and wait and see before we blow our load thinking we're going all he way.
Too many unanswered questions
stay tuned Bears fans, TBD in this case means... The Bears have to get some attitude rolling into the pre-season

With all due respect David: I've been reading you prop up Manning as a safety for years now, but what you never seem to acknowledge is that besides any "awareness" issues, Manning is simply too soft to play safety. When he was playing safety there were games that he gave up multiple scores because he played pattycake rather than putting a helmet on someone. He might be a great athlete, and I definitely value him as a returner, but he has proven repeatedly that he doesn't have the "awareness" or toughness to play safety. Nickel makes more sense because there isn't as much pressure on him to play the run or make a hit over the middle.

Funny how Jake Cutler represents 'experience' while the DBs mentioned are called,'retreads.'

I suppose the Bears could find some DBs with less experience, then let the superb coaching staff mold them into Pro Bowl players.

I like this Zack Bowman kid he is tall 6'1" runs a sub 4.3 and played well when he was giving a chance.

I hear he is one hell of an athlete to boot.

However, he is injury prone from what I understand, but he seems to be the real deal.

I love the play of graham; so as David said this could really be a blessing in disguise.

We will see very soon huh.

Ok, first of all... "Jake" Cutler? Really? Seriously? Are you retarded? Not poking fun, but, like, REALLY retarded? Jake? Everybody knows him, DAVID Hester, MIKE Forte and the boys on the OFFENZE are going to be fine. I really hate internet writers with a 2nd grade education.
SECONDLY, why have we not tried out Zack Bowman at Safety? From what I read, they gave it one day at a minicamp, then went to Steltz and Payne. Payne is the logical choice at SS, but I'm a bit leery with Steltz at FS, especially now with Graham having to fill in at corner.. And let's make no mistake... this is a HUGE injury that Tillman will not be right from until week 6 if we're lucky. Anyway, I still am looking forward to this year and just bought a new TV to go with my DirecTv HD box. GO BEARS!!

After Jerry Azumah retired because of injury, Angelo actually drafted Manning with the idea of him being a return specialist; Hester who was taken in the same draft turned out to be the return specialist that Angelo was looking for in the first place. I would not consider Manning a bust because he is finally starting to excell in kickoff returns for which is the reason that he was drafted.

The Bears have the players if the coaching staff uses there players in the right postion! SS&FS is still in the air but I'm sure theres 1 in the crowd, It is time these 2nd year guys earn there money and make this Bears team MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY AGAIN kick a$$ and take names

Good receivers can often be converted to CB.

So why not...? Oh yeah, nevermind.

why did Tillman wait until 2 weeks before pre season to have surgery. He could have had it 10 weeks ago and he would be ready for the start of camp.

Right on article David. Common sense says that we will be at least 2-3 yrs. from a solid SB team. We will make tremendous strides jelling this year learning to be a well oiled machine. We have a TOP-GUN QB and it only makes sense to build a strong, young, nucleus around him. Time and a little patience Bears fans and we will create a dynasty that Chicago has only dreamed of for the last 4-5 decades.

Maybe the defensive line could turn it up a little huh?

Let's face it, the whole secondary is crap. Tillman hasn't done squat in a few years, Vasher refuses to tackle and cover anybody, and they haven't had a safety since Mike brown's last healthy year. Manning has done nothing with this team, neither of them. This defense is done, we will see it this year. Time to tear it up and rebuild it.
