The Jets need to seriously evaluate whether they want to continue this childish feud with their division rivals. Mangini hasn't exactly earned the right to prolong it with a 3-10 record. A change of coach outside the Northeast Corridor should be in the immediate future for Gang Green.

So Mangini obviously knew of Belichick's cheating ways from his tenure with the Pats, so he knew what to look for. How arrogant is Belichick? The commish of the NFL makes it a priority to keep the game clean (sending out SPECIFIC memo's) to all the teams about cameras PLUS, the opposing coach (your old mentee) knows your illegal practices... and you do it anyway? Lets face it, Belichick is a smug arrogant little man (a genious) but a win at all costs guy. What would of happened if Mangini's players found out that Mangini knew of the cheating and did nothing? Now, Mangini loses the respect of his locker room.... Seriously, what would you do?

It's funny that the media gives credit to the Pats for running up the score on teams. How many teams over the years could of ran up the score, but chose not to. The Pats are classless. Over the years the Colts could of left Manning and crew in game to pad their stats and egos. Funny how the media gives Brady credit for meaningless TDs, this is a joke. The Pats are a very good team, but to give them credit as a class organization, is ridiculous. Go JETS

Uhh.. Jet's Fan, The Colts did leave Manning in on a couple of games longer than he should have and he did throw more than his share of "meaning less TDs" as you would like to describe it.
Yes, I'm a Colts fan, but I'm also a realist. Stat padding will always be a part of the NFL. It's not just a sport anymore. It's one big business that relies so much in all these stats and you have to be able to churn out numbers to show that you are, in fact, being productive. THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS RIGHT NOW. With that said, I don't give a rat's ass about this SpyGate hoopla. The road to the Superbowl goes through the Pat's Gillette Stadium and the AFC game between the Pats and the Colts will be one for the ages. Go Colts! |

Maybe the Colts slightly ran the score up on a couple of occasions, but Manning and company still sat some games and Dungy still runs a very respectful team. I don't recall the point spread being a factor like it is this year. And the reason is the class of the dominant teams and their coaches character. The Colts were only an example of one of the dominant teams showing class. I never recalled Manning throwing TDs when up 30 points with seconds left in a game, they would of run out the clock. That is why Vegas never would of had the ridiculous spreads of today. Pats have a good, but classless coach named Belicheat.

I just don't understand why writers insist on trying to create stories out of nothing... it makes the public collectively more stupid.
Every single sports publication ran this story yesterday and effectively killed it by just asking basic questions. |

Again what the Pats did is not CHEATING! they broke a rule in regards to where cameras may be placed. People always say "they stole signs" well hate to tell you but stealing signs was not and is not illegal. All teams steal signs it's unfortunately part of the game. They broke a procedural rule and nothing more. due some real research on a team before you decide to call them classless. Patriots players don't talk smack, they don't excessively celebrate on the field and they do a LOT in the community. This is Pro football, this isn't Pop warner football. Until the league places a "mercy" rule, the offense job is to score and the defense job is to limit scoring. If i pay hundreds of dollars to watch my team play, i want to see my team play it's heart out for the full 60 minutes i paid for. IF doing your job to the fullest, if not cheating your boss by doing your job is classless, then i will be teaching my kids to be "classless". get real people.

One of the best pieces in the whole, dare I say it, "overblown" mess of a situation. Really excellent analysis.

You are right about the Patriots not talking trash, and about being humble in the locker room. I have always had respect for the Patriots, even though they are a rival team. I am not speaking of New England’s history; I am speaking only of this year, and their quest not only for a perfect season, but to disrespect their opponents any chance they get on the field. Yes, I like any fans to get their money worth, and to have their favorite team play hard and win, but come on. Do we really want powerhouse teams to run up the score? Many games over the years could have gotten out of control if the coaches let them. I do not, and will not believe the Patriots are the best team, or that Brady is better then quarterbacks of the past, just because they blow teams out. This showboating doesn’t prove they’re a great team, it only proves they have a no class coach.

I'd have to agree. Stealing signs is not illegal or cheating, it happens all the time. That's why d-coordinators are constantly (or at least should be) changing their signals throughout the game.
The more that comes out of this the more the media's witch hunt (aka spygate) is beginning to look extremely foolish. Goodell looks biased (ties to the jets?) for not investigating the matter after mangini blatantly admitted to breaking the same rule the pats did.(permission or not, he still broke the rule). The hypocrisy and bias is disgusting. A lot of people don't like the Pats outside of new england because most fans (not saying they are the most knowledgeable) only take in the crap they've been fed from the national media *ESPN*. My two cents: Mangini smells like a rat in all this mess because 1.) he does the same thing that he ratted out another coach for 2.) according to him it's "not a big deal" bc every coach does it (so why did you rat out the coach who gave you your start?) 3.) the jets organization blatantly lied about this when this rumor first came out. I've got to admit, what the pats are doing is incredible and anyone who fails to see that is missing out. The way they've handled the whole situation and subsequent witch hunt (when mind you they knew how common this is in the league and how even the jets did it) is very commendable. Seeing as my bears are definitely not going anywhere this season, I can't help but root for the patriots to go all the way. I just wish that Brady was qbing my team...

I'd have to say this article is very good. And to jetsfan who asks the question "Do we really want powerhouse teams to run up the score?" I answer yes. The way the patriots score looks unbelievably easy and not because they are playing easy teams. Hell, look at the Pittsburg game when they played the number one defense. They looked like they scored at will when they wanted to. Trust me as a bears fan I know how painstakingly difficult it can be to score on offense. The reason the Patriots completely dominate these teams is to continue to reach excellence. What good are they going to get from those games if they sit out their starters the entire second half or have their starters half ass the rest of the game? In this league you have to play 60 minutes of your A-game to beat the best teams. They always go hard in games because when the situation comes up where they must be on their a-game the whole 60 minutes to get a win, they're prepared. Half-assing when you're up by a certain amount will not get you a victory against the toughest teams.

In all seriousness, than what is your gauge in determining a great team? Do we not consider Tiger Woods the greatest or one of the greatest to play the game? why? because the guy dominates, wins, never gives up and puts his foot down all the way on the throttle when he can. In the early stages his wins weren't just by a couple shots, he was killing the field, embarassing every pro player in some cases. is that classless? so what happened those players worked harder and got better to play up to him. As player i don't think anyone would say that Tiger is classless, instead words like "great, awesome, ruthless competetor, the best, etc etc" are used to describe him. I'm not trying to put you or anyone else who is not a fan of the Pats down, but it is getting a little ridiculous calling the Pats classless. Do you think Peyton Manning and the Colts never ran up the score especially during his record breaking run? So then, what is the cut off mark, when does it become running up the score? 21 point lead? 17 point lead? what about if the defense has a team shut out going into the 4th qtr? should they pull the starters so the other team has a better chance to catch up? come on people, lets be real. |

Good point bears fan. All i am saying is, what good is it having a 27 point spead agaist the Jets, or a 40 point spread when they play Miami in 2 weeks. Should the Pats play for blood, and hammer a defenseless team like Miami 75-0. Does it prove anything? The Pats maybe the best ever, and Brady is top notch, but they have noting to prove beating a lesser team 75-0. There will always be mismatches in sports, but I think the Pats should at least be respectful of their power.

"Class"? You Jetty Betties still whining about "class"???
Is the new standard of "class" to ask Tiger Woods to take a few extra strokes on the 15th because he's embarrassing the other players? Is it to ask Manny Ramirez to keep the bat on his shoulder in the box so his opponent can finally get a strikeout? Here's an idea... maybe in the 4th quarter if a team is up by 28 points they could just stop the clock and declare the winner by TKO. Would that make you Jets fans happy? Hmm? Maybe you all go home after the 3rd quarter? That better? Awwww... all better... Football in the NFL is a PRO sport. Ask any coach in the league when its a good time to stop competing. I guarantee even Mangina would tell you that you never stop competing. You stop competing when the game is over. I don't watch the Patriots because it puts me on the edge of my seat to see Brady take a kneel, or because there's a chance that Matt Cassel might get in there. The Patriots vs. Ravens game was CBS's highest rated program of the season... not because it was between 2 powerhouse teams, it wasn't. It was supposed to be a huge blowout. Thats what we want to see. We may be generations away from Roman times when the crowd would decide whether a combatant would live or die by the direction of their thumb, but please... no one is getting whacked. Stop being such a bunch of marshmallows, you Jets weenies. Oh yea... just for the record, Mangina gets a thumbs down. No Mercy. |
