<3...Falcons have tough decisions at linebacker
#1 Feb 15, 2009
Brook has lost a couple of steps. It happens. He spent the last season diving to make tackles that two years ago he's got a facemask planted in the numbers. He knows it too.
He's been a wonderful player for the Falcons, but as time wears on, he's not a quick as he needs to be and his mind is keeping him near the plays.
Brook is smart enough to go out his way, his choice. I'd love to see him working with the developmental squad and teaching what he knows, but for the Falcons to become serious contenders, we need that slot filled with quicker feet.
On the outside, we have a couple of choices. We find Abraham a twin, or we trade him and find a set of potential twins. John is huge at OLB, but with one side of the D-line a threat, that just rolls the play in the opposite direction. Imagine two of him pinching the corners.....:-)
I say if we can't find him a balance, then trade the guy to a contender, put him in a position to help another team and use his ability to get higher draft picks or trades that help both sides of the D-line.
Falcons surprised me this year. If they had finished 8-8, I'd be happy, but they far exceeded my hopes. Let's keep at it, building a long-term winner.
