Packers defense looks a little like Steelers

Full story: Oshkosh Northwestern

The Green Bay Packers really did look like Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. No surprise, considering new Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers and Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau developed their branch of the 3-4 zone-blitz defense together as Steelers assistants in the early 1990s.

Why not try to pattern your defensive approach after the best!!! The Steelers play defense and that you can take to the bank. A very aggressive bunch of guys and when one leaves, another effective guy takes his place. Capers, Perry, Greene; these are Steeler philosophy guys. GB has talent on the defense, so when you blend the coaching smarts with talent this is what you get. GB's defense is for real and came together a lot sooner than many thought which will not be good news for the division. There are no question marks on defense, but it probably comes down to the offensive line and keeping Rodgers healthy. One final thought is I have read where Perry has been working for some time to improve Rouse's technique. This could explain in part why Smith was released. Rouse is penciled in to replace Bigby.

Well, I have often thought of the Packers as the closest thing to the Steelers that the NFC has. Mostly due to the climate they play in and the rabid cheeseheads! While not as large of a group as Steeler Nation they do love their team. Now, the Packers are taking that to the next level by attempting to copy the Steelers game play. What's that saying... Imitation is the best form of flattery.

Well if Capers and Co. can get these guys playing anything like the Steelers on defense, many Packer fans will be quite pleased. Only one game in the books, but so far very encouraging.

I love the downhill defense and the turnovers were great. As a whole, though, we look more like the Steelers with Tommy Maddox at QB. We need to step up our running game and clock management to be the real Steelers. McCarthy's in 49ers mode. Capers is in Steelers mode. When you get the lead in this division, you need to be able to run the clock. I thought the defense was on the field too much in 2nd half.

Well, the Bengals certainly had their way with us, so the Packers defense sucked Sunday.

The Packer defense does look a "little" like the Steelers. Very little.

The goal, of course, is to get sports writers to write articles titled: "Steelers defense looks a little like Packers."

What logic are you using? I said nothing of the sort. I think this scheme is smoke and mirrors for a bigger problem: our coach can't manage games. As Aaron gets more experienced he will check out of plays more effectively and move the chains. But until then, we need some half time adjustments so our D isn't out there 10+ minutes longer than our opponents.

So they suck then. Colts won a game with their defense on the field for 45 minutes of the entire game so it can be done.

No more excuses, my ribs hurt from laughing.

Thanks Jeremy, but save the psychic energy. The guy just wants to be a jerk.
