I'm really contemplating on what is our biggest need...OL or stopping the run on D. Tra Thomas was just released by Jacksonville and is a 3 time Pro Bowler and may give some good veteran leadership. I remember last year we signed Kahlif Barnes and Erik Pears who were both starters for other teams and neither did very well. Thomas lost his job early in the season to Eugene Monroe and another rookie OL so that might mean that he doesn't have much left in the tank. Several rookie offensive tackles ended up being starters last year so I kind of think it would be better to draft an OT rather than sign one since the ones we signed last year didn't pan out and we could've drafted one rather of them rather than a receiver that can't catch.

Then again LBs are the least likely to be busts in round 1 so McClain might be the safest pick.

Of course I've said this before and I'm sure I'll say it again several times this offseason...I'm not gonna get too excited about any draft pick or FA signee until the season starts and I see a positive difference.

Their 1st move should be remove Al "crypt keeper" Davis from ownership duties. Then maybe and thats a big maybe they might have a little success.

(LOL) it's hard not to get excited over the draftee that we'll get. don't let these last few disapoint you for the next rookie that we get. it happens to all the teams and some just don't pick up momentum till a few years later. remember that thats the way the nfl used to do it before. they would never start a rookie right away. todays football, they throw them into the lions and expect them to play like pro's! some catch on fast some may take a while. but there is nothing more exciting then your first round pick and it makes it more exciting that you did not pick him"technically" (LOL). so on the side play the game and choose your player and hope RAIDERS pick him. and if he turns out bad, we'll blame it on you!(lol) it's all good!

Sometimes I wonder if out last 5 first round picks that are still with us would've panned out quicker for other teams. Gallery really came alive at guard when Cable came along. Huff showed lots of improvement this last year. McFadden was supposed to be a can't miss pick (but so was Reggie Bush). I don't think JBust and BH-Bust would've made it with other teams either and are just lucky that Al Davis likes good 40 times and arm strength.

It was in their 4th years when Asomugha, Gallery, and Huff all started playing as they were expected to when they were drafted. JBust will be entering his 4th in the 2010 season and we'll jsut have to see how it goes. Personally I think 4 years is too long for a first rounder especially when late rounders like Zach Miller, Tom Howard, Kirk Morrison, Trevor Scott, Tyvon Branch, Louis Murphy, Chaz Schilens, and Johnnie Lee Higgins make an impact quicker...Heck Tommy Kelly wasn't even drafted in 2004 (the year we took Gallery) and became a vital part of the DL quicker than Gallery became vital to the OL.

LBs in round 1 rarely bust because to be a good LB in the NFL you've got to be a hard hitter and have good instincts on where the ball is going and you have to be fearless and those things are hard to ignore.
