Full story: Chicago Tribune

Phil Simms hadn't heard the rumblings that the Bears might have interest in his son, Chris, an unrestricted free-agent quarterback.

If the price is right - why not give him a shot. Orton hasn't done anything to convince me he is the answer at QB - though he isn't nearly as limiting on the offense as John "the 300 lb swinging gate." Orton wasn't the reason the Bears either had to run 3 step drops or give their LT lots of help every time they tried to pass the ball. As long as the Bears have a below average LT, it really doesn't matter who the QB is.

I haven't understood the Chris Simms buzz for the past two years. He's accomplished less than Grossman and Orton (in comparable games started) and yet the media jumps all over rumors of who's interested and where he's needed. Enough already. Please.

You are wrong. He isn't at scrub level.

He didn't earn his spot in college. Daddy brokered a deal with Mack Brown to get him to sign there, so Mack screwed over Major Applewhite.

Where are the offseason rumors about a blank blank receiver?????

I don't want someone to "compete" with Orton for the starting job. I want somebody that will make the decision to make Kyle a back-up a no-brainer. Otherwise, what's the point? Haven't we had enough QB's that are little, if any, better than the guy before them? I've been a Bear fan since Butkus and Buffone were terrorizing offenses. I've NEVER seen a Bears quarterback that other teams feared. Chris Simms wouldn't scare most of college teams.

Aren't we looking for a PROVEN backup? If Hanie sticks at #3, then there's no way Simms is the #2.

nothing available and worth signing is out there ... best bet is to keep 3 we have for the time being. sadly
that's probably the best option.

Pls don't sign Simms.

good line, and yeah, you'd hope MGMT is thinking a solid #2, a not another to add to our long list...

but is a solid #2 available? at what cost?

Two mediocre QB's battling out for the starting job with the Bears! Wow, like we don't know how that movie ends!!!

Draft a reciever and call Cleveland about the availability of Derrick Anderson or Brady Quinn! Both of these guys are making starters money so I believe Cleveland would move one of them! Probably won't happen so we will continue to have this conversation next year!! Bears need a QB!!!

In fact i would bet some serious coin that in an open quarterback competition, Sims couldn't beat "Wrecks" out and we all know how badly "Wrecks" sucks.

Orton isn't the problem. With a crap D, we were in every game this year except for the GB game.
Why do we need a qb? Build around Orton with a FB, some WR that can catch...and a better OL.
Orton isn't a joke....he's showed me he's competent.

Say "No" to D.A. He had 1 fluke year and made the pro bowl, and the real D.A. came back last year.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Capricorn

Confusion reigns supreme today, especially when dealing with financial matters. You could get into a muddle when sorting out your accounts or when working out how much you owe someone, even though you may not notice this at the time. It certainly isn't the day for parting with large sums of money because the chances of something going wrong are very high.
