Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe posted on his Twitter account a photograph of two stick-figure drawings mocking the video the NFL sent to teams to show which hits are considered illegal and would subject players to suspensions. Full Story

Kluwe may get fined for this. I remember J Porter being fined around 20,000 dollars a few years ago for criticizing the officiating in the league.

Awww shucks, punters have all the fun. Tackle with a karate kick? What do punters know about tackling? Most punters get hauled off the field on a cart if they even try to tackle.

I understand why the league did it. They're afraid someone is going to get killed at the rate things are going. They're the top sports league because they're proactive. I'm amazed at a small group of guys who seem to get fined a lot. They're the ones like James Harrison who say they like to hurt people and strangely enough you never see them using their arms and hands to make tackles like Antoine Winfield. How can a guy get to this level without really knowing how to tackle someone? Running them over isn't tackling. Maybe they should have a separate stat for tackles/running someone over.

I think everybody, the NFL included, is over reacting. The NFL had to do something for 3 reasons: 1) too many national studies are focused on brain injuries in football, and the data that was released just before this NFL season didn't cast the NFL in the best light. 2) former NFL players were trying to get the NFL to pay assistance money to ex-NFL players, some of whom had significant brain injuries and are really unable to function and have no money of their own to speak of. One Mike Ditka was actually leading that charge. It's hard to keep paying long term disability payments out if you are trying to stop current players from killing themselves. 3) If the league goes to an 18 game schedule, some of these players are going to have a greater chance and getting more head injuries. That's really not good for a league that is already under the microscope from the research community.
That said, I thought the Meriweather hit was illegal. I thought the Harrison hits were illegal, even if he didn't (you can clearly see he gets up on his tip toes with forearms up and just clocks Massaquoi instead of lowering his head and having his arms out, and driving through with his legs running on the ground). The Dunta hit could have been illegal too for the same tip toe launch sequence, though his is the most questionable of the hits involved.
cant take the heat go play in the arena league
