Redman might make the team over Frank the Tank Summers.
Only three pre season games to go to prove he can make the team.

I think they will keep redman and summers and let carey davis go. why hang onto davis? summers is a better lead blocker and will be better on special teams. anyway they may need redman as a second stringer in case FWP gets injured again.
my prediction is

RBs: FWP, Moore, Mendenhall, Redman

FB: Summers

I am thinking -

RB's: FWP, Mendenhall, Moore, & Redman
FB: Davis

Although I do like McHugh lead blocking at times too. I think Summers is a little raw thus far, but if he plays well on ST there may be a spot for him.

Well thank you COACHES for your breakdown of players, now get back to pushing your punch press pedal at the shop. "REDMAN does well"! Now that a good sign. Usually the headlines read: "BLACKMAN does well". There is hope.

Okay, okay, you win: Philadelphia is home to more semi-retarded crybabies than any city on earth.

Back to football: If the Steelers are smart, then Bob is right. Davis is a good ST player, but that's the ONLY reason to keep around a guy who is a marginal blocker and who has proven he can't pick up a 3rd and 1 to save his life. I argue that we are stocking the ST with good enough players that we can live without Davis there. Summers has five times the upside, and Redman can flat out play.

Redman aside from last night as well, has looked real good in camp. He seems to be a guy coming out of Bowie State, that he's playing for his livelihood. Summers has a lot of upside, hopefully he can achieve that.

Let me just say, until Redman can prove to be a consistent short yardage/goal line back while facing a 1st team defense...his stock means little to me.

That said, I hope they give him and Tank a chance against the 1st team Redskin defense in Washington next weekend. Until we see what they're gonna be like against anyone other than backups/practice squad/special team players...we won't have a full gauge of what they can do.

You're right, of course. I'm just saying that in the case of Davis vs. Redman, Davis has already shown us what he's capable of, and aside form great ST play, it's not much. I'd take the chance on Redman over proven mediocrity.

One good thing about having extensive conversation pertaining to who the short yardage back is going to be in goal line situations, is that it means things are looking pretty good across the board. I still did not have any of my skepticism wiped away by the ground attack overall. The pass protection, while decent with the first unit, was nothing to brag about either- but it's early.
Seeing Brady back playing pitch and catch with Moss makes me a little antsy I guess.

Brady hasn't played a full season in over a year. Which means he'll be fatigued when the playoffs come. That's not speculation, that's fact. We don't play them in regular season, but I'm sure we'll meet them in the playoffs.

You're right. We don't have much to worry about. I'd like to see Summers in a FB role more after what I saw Thursday night.

Agreed. Picking anyone over Davis is like...what? Replace potential with...blah? I mean, Davis is a special special teamer, but if he can't contribute to the standard offense, he has no place on this team. He's NOT a fullback. He's just a big running back with no forward vision.

Hey LZ did you read the latest? It looks like redman is getting some reps against the best D in the world and making some plays! It's all over the post gazette and the trib review today. he scored 3 times against the first stringers in sundays goal line practice. If he keeps this up we will start calling him redzone redman. Agree with rex about Davis. he will be replaced on ST and late last season they used mchugh as the FB so I think we say goodbye to him this season. he will be picked up pretty fast by one of our division teams IMO.

btw, the tank was the lead blocker in 3 of redmans TDs on sunday.

Yeah, I was cheering about that PG article, too. I'd be thrilled with the Tank as FB, and Redman as our short-yardage back. Will they go into the season with McHugh listed as the starting FB (in which case the Tank goes on the practice squad), or will they keep McHugh listed as a TE? It might come down to how much they like David Johnson. I just hope they don't try to put the Tank on the PS--he'll never clear waivers.

I think they will keep 3 TEs, miller, spaeth, mchugh. I think D Johnson is practice squad material. I guess we have a few more weeks to find out. I like the idea of having a real FB like summers who can also fill in at RB. Did you read how they were using capizzi as a TE in short yardage? line him up next to starks, lead with a FB and listen for the collisions. can't wait for this saturday!

Good to know!! I wanna see what this boy can do against the Redskins. Granted, they just got stomped by our division rivals...but they should provide Redman with enough of a challenge in goal line situations.

i heard on the radio an interview with kirby the rbs coach. he said if redman makes the team it will be because he shows them he can play special teams. thats the deal maker or breaker for tank, redman etc. He said his goal line runs didn't surprise anyone, that they knew he could run from their scouting reports.

Redzone Redman! I like that. If Carey Davis makes this team its gotta be because he's doing something we are all not seeing and Ray Charles has passed away. C'mon 7!

I keep hearing that the coaches really like davis. I'm guessing that he is really good on special teams. I think if both redman and summers excel on ST then davis may get cut. we all suspect summers will be a ST standout. he already has 2 tackles in the first game. redman still has to prove himself on ST. this is getting very exciting that's for sure. I'm also wondering who makes the team between the guys battling for an OLine roster spot. they can't keep all of them. I think they keep 9 O lineman. we for sure need a backup center, is that stapleton legursky or shipley? if stapleton is guard then it goes to the legursky or shipley. do you choose foster or hills or capizzi?

what great problem to have, choosing between some pretty damn good football players.

Seems like Redman is winning the battles in the goaline drills at SVC so far. I hope he keeps it up, because we need someone who can do it.

I also heard one of the D lineman say that they ran the same defense against the offense every time, so I guess we have to take the goal line scores for what they are...drills. I sure hope the o line clicks for ben and the running game. I like the talent they are grooming for the future I just don't think the starters are there yet. a cool quote I heard but can't remember who said it, was that, since they function as a unit, for an o line to get really good each player just has to improve a little bit. it makes sense to me, i just wish we had someone like coach grimm in here to make them better. I'm not sold on zierlen or arians in the slightest.
