Whether it's on the practice squad or what ever, it's better than not being in the league.

Here's hoping young athletes on the North Coast learn at an early age that character means everything. If you're a scholarship athlete at a major university, or any university don't ever take that gift for granted. Go to bed early. Stay away from the bars and nightlife sceene. Look where it got Mo.

Guys who get drafted in the late rounds don't get very big contracts and they have no choice but to go to the club that drafted them. I've been told a number of times by NFL people that it's better to be a free agent like Purify than to get drafted really late. He got to pick a team that needs receivers.
Once again, why is it impossible for some people in Humboldt County to just let a guy succeed without trying to drag him down? Whatever you think of Purify...he played in the Big 12, starred, stayed eligible and got to an NFL camp. He got out of Eureka and beat million-to-one-odds to get to the NFL. It could be jealously and envy that prompts people to drag him back to wherever he was when they last saw him when he was a teenager in Eureka. |

First of all, everyone has baggage, not just Mo. When your a star athlete it is just magnified. Yes he did some stupid things, but he was still worth drafting at least in the later rounds. I saw way too many garbage players going who are just going to miss the cut come september who werent as good as Mo. You have to give him credit for the hard work he has put in to make it to Nebraska and become the athlete he is. Look how many kids from here are just tweakers and pot heads. There are people who are jealous, but we Humboldt County people should be proud that someone from our county actually did something great for themselves and might make it big. I am glad he is in a camp and hopefully someone will take a chance on him. If not, he still accomplished more than a majority of the rest of you Humboldt Countyans.

The other newspaper in Eureka reported that Purify's signed or going to sign -- not really specific -- with the Bengals.
The report that he WOULD have been the first North Coast high school grad to be drafted by the NFL is wrong...it's not even close...unless North Coast history started in, like, 1990. http://focusonnorthcoast.blogspot.com/ There'll be a pretty complete list of North Coast preps who went to get drafted...and some notes about where guys got free agents shots...on my blog today. http://focusonnorthcoast.blogspot.com/ |
