Talent-rich, record-poor Vikings are underachieving

Full story: TwinCities.com

If the talent doesn't fit the crime, then the Vikings should be arrested for five counts of underachievement.

The Vikings are old and their talent is thin. They got EVERY break last year, so it's just evening out.
Injuries? Talk to the Pack about injuries.
Face it, the Vikes are not very good.
The vikes also played and beat 4 last place teams last year. this year they have only defeated last place teams.

What's new, the Vikings have been underachieving for the last 25 years, from the late 80s till today they have been consistent in one thing as a team and organization and that is UNDERACHIEVING. They're the best at it. The late 80s, they should have rolled into the Super Bowls to fall to the niners among others....then they hock the franchise for Herschel Walker and Jerry Burns decides he's not going to change anything to fit Walker's running style.....genius....real genius' we have here. The 90s no different........talent laden team after talent laden team......can't get there......then the 1998 season with Denny Green.....Mr. Average......gets them to the playoffs and one and done.........98 gets them to the NFC Championship game, only to freeze and choke and take knee with 1:01 left in regulation with the highest powered offense in NFL history at the time.........and it continues into today..........talent laden, average coaches who can't get them over the hump........wasted year after wasted year..........and so Chilly repeats what Denny did in 98'.........choke........12 men on the field.......Favre INT.....season over........Chilly the white version of Denny Green, average coach....can't get over the hump........in pressure situations........nothing new....50 years of Viking history with the last 25 being embarrasment........
You forgot one other disturbing trend...Greens assistants went on to have more success then he did...Dungy and Billick went on to have SB winning careers, and Dungy gives the credit to Chuck Noll (rightfully so)...Tomlin has had far more success in his short time since escaping Chilly (and his tree is tied to Dungy, hence Noll) and we can oly wonder who is next.

i'm stating that the packers have 10 people on IR--not counting week to week injuries or PUP. the vikings have 2. my apologies, there's two healthier teams (arizona and oakland) in the league. that being said, the vikings are the 3rd healthiest team in the league. they probably shouldn't be using injuries as an excuse for **** poor play.
Sadly, it did resemble a Packer JV team...our Vikes have no excuse as Moss was there instead of Rice....the refs cost the Vikes that game pretty clearly but the Vikes still had a chance at the end...they should have won by two scores if they would have sensed the screen pass a little better...that was just plain laziness on defense.

Somewhat over rated, definately under acheivers, certainly a head coach who is deeply disliked by his players. is this a big surprise? I never liked Klink, I hated that he was brought on as HC, fans have hated him...players have no respect for his ineptness, hence losing.

The first and foremost reason they are 2-5 is the NFL's schedule makers were hell-bent on the Vikes starting slow. Let's see. Four of their first seven games were on road the against the Saints, Jets, Packers and Patriots. All playoff teams from last season. 3-4 was the best case senario without a few lucky bounces/calls. An early bye week adds insult to injury. Green Bay's first seven games, on the other hand, were road games against Eagles, Redskins and Bears. Not a 2009 playoff team among them. Oh, and their bye week is week 9. You tell me they did not have it gift wrapped to start out fast. And once you start out slow, the negativity creeps in and acts like a cancer eating away at their confidence. And the season is an uphill battle the rest of the way. And if you start out fast, optimism sets and gives you the confidence that you can win any game. We'll see if the Vikings have the intestinal fortitude to pull out of the funk the league helped to create. Hopefully so. Skol Vikings!

1 - Put Brinkley in for EJ, as EJ is much slower and not even close to his old self, than before his injury.
2 - Sit Jarred Allen for 1 game and put in #96 , just to let Allen think about what he's doing, or not doing.
3 - Get Camarillo into the play as a receiver, as he can catch anything thrown to him.
4 - Fire Klink and get Marty Schottenheimer as head coach.
5 - Sit the entire OL and let the subs give it a try. nothing to lose at this point.
Marty Schottenheimer?????LOL How old is he?? 75???

The window closed on this team last year with yet another patented heartbreaking Viking playoff loss. Winfield is clearly done. Pat Williams is done. Hutchinson while decent isn't the road grader he was. Right tackle continues to be a black hole. McKinnie has mentally retired with the new contract. Leber is mediocre at best. Our 2 safeties are pathetic. Jared Allen has been demasculated by marriage. Edwards will walk. We have no 3rd down back. And most importantly we have no quarterback. All of this spells some lean years in the Vikings immediate future.
We had our chance and the buffoon Childress was at the controls. A coach whose game management skills are highly suspect.
Hey I've been telling Vike fans this all year but nobody BELIEVED me!!!

Hey Jared Allen: The season has started come back from the honeymoon, grow your hair out, and start worrying more about being a good(right now I'd settle for contributing)football player than being a media sensation.

Brad Childress won't be asked to leave. He'll be pushed and shoved out the door with profanity hollered at him and told to never come back again or the cops will put him in the can.

packers beat the jets on the road. funny how you forgot to mention that (since you were talking about the season through week 8). or how the vikings are lucky that they won't be playing in green bay when it's freezing in december. they have a fairly nice warm cozy schedule to conclude the season.

Wait a minute.

The Vikings are talented and underachieving?

Really?

This passes as news?

I have a news flash for you, Mr. Fowler:

FOR THE BETTER PART OF 50 YEARS THE VIKINGS HAVE BEEN UNDERACHIEVERS.

This is not news.

The only thing newsworthy about the Vikings is why people invest time, energy and emotion into such a loser organization.
