Smart move with Greenway. He's a beast that just keeps getting better and better.
Edwards' value as a Viking went up - not because of anything HE did. It's only on account of Everson Griffen being a complete tool. Ray has been pretty consistent (a little better than middle of the pack) and we know what we are getting. He's just not worth the price HE thinks he commands.
Rice? He's the biggest risk. Can he stay healthy? How well is he going to play with a young QB running the offense? How much money do you tie up in a guy that might only catch 40 balls next year in a run-first offense? However, keeping Rice, Harvin, and Siancoe together is only going to help ANY QB that plays next season. I don't envy Spielman on this one.

Sign Greenway to a long term deal, place the transition tag on Rice and see if he can stay healhy for a full year before offering anything long term. Let Edwards go, he's only a good player when he wants to play and rarely gives you 100%. I would rather have Robison in there giving his all even though he's not as complete a player than Edwards.

They CAN'T place the transition tag on Rice. That news came out a couple days ago.

Great job to get Greenway back and now it's time to reward him with a long term contract and keep him in Minnesota for years to come. I thought this was their #1 priority going into the offseason and now that it's done they can look to the draft and free agency if their is one.

As for Rice I would let him go, no need for another "diva" type wr with injury problems who only had one big year in the last 4. Edwards can go to, he is by product of Allen and the Willamses and will be a big bust wherever he goes. Speaking of the Williamses time to let the big guy go, at 38 he's getting long in the tooth and his production slipped quite a bit last year, time to let Letroy Guion step in.

He had one big year because TJoke playing QB and run first pass second Webb wasnt playing the entire season yet. Harvin's stats dropped too, should just dump him to the curb as well then........

Besides the Frazier connection, anyone know why the Vikings would bring in Sanders and not at least look at OJ Atogwe? Sheesh, he would be a huge upgrade and they can focus on a QB, DL, OL in the draft.

Another miss by the Viking front office. Greenway might be among the top 12 linebackers in the NFC. No way is he worthy of the franchise tag. This organization has had their heads up their as since the late, great Jim Finks left for Chi-town. Unless they blow this thing up from top to bottom and start over, this franchise will see another 50 years of mediocrity.

Thanks, I was unaware of the rule change from requirement of being in the leage now for 6 years (vs 4 years) before you could place the transition tag. Guess it now comes down to either signing Greenway to a long term deal (which I think they will) and then using the Tag on Rice or getting Rice to sign a long term deal. I would hate for the Vikings to lose either, but I'm guessing the Vikings thought the risk-reward for Greenway was lower than Rice which is why they tagged him instead.

Yes, but I think he'll get little interest outside of the Vikings and they will be able to sign him long term for league mininum or a little above.

Greenway is WAYYY more valuable than Rice - on any performance scale. NOT even close. On the transition point, your teacher (WHATEVER from Lost Vegas) is correct - it's probably the first time in his useless life he's ever been correct about anything football related - his football retardation and infatuation with Childress (and TJOKE, who he said one short year ago on this very forum was MUCH more talented than Aaron Rodgers) is legendary. He is, notwithstanding this particular point, the smartest imbecile ever to opine on Vikings football (on a good day;-). On the Sanders point above, agreed - Sanders is not only all used up, but constantly injured and has easily seen his best days.

If he's going to generate little interest on other teams, why should he replace a starter on this team? Draft DE Quinn from NC in the 1st round to fill that hole, that is if the freak's still available come pick 12.

I never said he was not talented, Robison just never had much of an opportunity since he was behind Edwards and Allen on the depth chart, and given more playing time I think he would be a reliable replacement for Edwards. He's gained more strength and weight since he came to the NFL, which means he can be used as an every down player. Since he's lacked playing time, I doubt he would generate much interest from other teams who are not familiar with his talent.
Back to your point, given our history of drafting DE in the first round, I'm not so sure drafting Quinn at #12, even if he is available, would be the best option especially since he has character issues. At that high of a draft pick, you should be able to find a player with talent AND no baggage.

I don't know, I think each is very talented, but Rice hip is a concern. I thought Rice did look good in the last few games though and seemed to have no effects from the surgery. Really, T-Jack more talented than Rodgers...wow. Missed that, or maybe I just laughed it off...I've seen some real good one's, like Ryan Grant better than AD, so every team has their share.
