I reside in Huntsville, AL, and will tell you that I'd pit any El Paso high school team against a 'bama high school football team. If 5 games were played, the El Paso team would win 3 of the 5.
Someone posted the need to recruit the quality athletes from El Paso to UTEP (keep them at home like Miami did during the 80s & 90s). I'd have to say I agree w/you.
The kids from 'bama, that attend U. of Alabama (or Auburn) haven't played together during high school. The only real stud team in Alabama is Hoover HS, but 'bama doesn't really recruit from that school (not as much as they do the little piss ant cities similar in population to Socorro, Fabens, or Clint. Auburn recruits more kids from Florida and Georgia than Alabama. Yet these programs do extremely well.
Marquis Maze for example, a well known stud wide-receiver, grew up in an extremely poor community (Tarrant, AL), attend a 2A high school, yet he flourishes at the D-1 level. Why can't UTEP commit to those kinda kids w/average to above average speed, then develop them. Marquis Maze is 5'6", 165 lbs. soak and wet, but runs like a cheetah.
Remeber when UTEP took a shot on an undersized kid from Andrss HS named Clarence Seay back in the 80s, he kick arse f/them at wide-receiver.
Can you imaging how well UTEP would've done had they kept Edward Britton and that other kid that went to Texas Tech at home?
I'm tired of hearing Mike Price needs to bring in quality players. He has some, he just does a poor job of developing them. He's a terrible coach that had one or two good seasons at Washington State during PAC10 down years, then took advantage of that success to get the Alabama job. Alabama soon realized their mistake in hiring Price, then pounced on his unprofessional behavior to get rid of hime. Believe, other Alambama coaches have been kept around for far less than letting strippers charge food to their rooms.
UTEP could succeed, especially if they'd draw a 300 mile circle around El Paso, and made every effort possible to recruit those kids. UNM & NMSU stink! UTEP, believe it or not, is a tremendous alternative to those insitutions.

No D = No wins. Price should be ashamed of himself for putting that miserable of a defense on the field. I have never seen a passing team like UH pound and run the ball as hard as they did to UTEP.
Nastylicion and Bob Schtup should be ashamed of themselves for taking their bog salaries for the mediocrity that they praise so much.

JUTEP does not have the deinero for a good coach!$500K, a housing and car allowance, free Whataburgers, free wienershitzel, free chicos tacos, is not a great compensation package for a quality coach.
