WE ARE WATCHING TWO COMPLETE FOOTBALL TEAMS, HOUSTON IS COMPLETELY LOADED ON OFFENSE AND DEFENSE AND OUR MINERS ARE A TEAM IN COMPLETE DISARRAY, CONFUSED AND PLAYING VERY MUCH LIKE MINERS OF OLD. NO OFFENSE (NO QUARTERBACK), NO DEFENSE. I LOVE MY MINERS, BUT IN REALTY WITH THIS SENIOR LAYDEN TEAM, WE NEED TO START UNDERCLASSMEN TO GET THEM EXPERIENCED AND READY FOR NEXT YEAR NOW!. IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THIS TEAM HAS ANY REALISTIC CHANCE OF WINNING ANY MEANINGFUL GAMES EXCEPT FOR, MAYBE NMSU, BUT THATS IFFY!. WHAT A DISAPOINTING PERFORMANCE AND PATHETIC SHOWING. UTEP PLAYERS SAID THEY WERE NOT GETTING ANY RESPECT BY HOUSTON.... WELL, YOU HAVE TO EARN IT AND THEY CERTAINLY DID NOT!!!!

Vittatoe is a joke. Seriously, he's got to be one of the worst quarterbacks ever, he is good enough for a third stringer in a second division school, at most...

Its official. The defense is the same worthless piece of crap defense from last year. I guess Trevor really has lost it. Sad... the surgery did not repair his lost confidence. Tank the season, and start the underclassmen, at least salvage something for the next year.

The ESPN announcers kept saying how much UTEP missed having Donald Buckram on the field. Unless he was slated to play defense and make some tackles, it really didn't matter.

No shame in losing to a better team. Houston is at the top of CUSA and UTEP isn't. I won't use not having the no. 1 back as an excuse, but having him wouldn't have hurt.

I don't see any consistency with the Miners, which may be the result of it being early in the season. The Miner QB had decent numbers, but with the exception of one or two drives, couldn't maintain the passing offense to the end zone. The defense looked confused. Possibly too much practice to face Houston's passing game and not enough on Houston's running game, which would be the fault of the defensive coordinator.

For those who expect a lot from the Miners, you should remember there have only been 5 winning seasons in 40 years. There's a reason for that. Geographic location has a lot to do with it. Funding probably most of all. Fan support too, although winning would cure that. Still, when you have 800,000 people in the city and you can't get 25,000 in the stands for opening day, well, that says something.

The Miners get NMSU and UNM soon. These teams, for as much as fans won't like this, are really in the same class as UTEP, and are the teams the Miners should be playing. Do well against the two NM schools, and no one will remember tonight's game.

Tonight was unfortunate. Houston was just a better team, but the effort and level of execution on UTEPs part was anemic.

I don't want to make any excuses, but Houston should expect to do well (every year). They have one of the most talent rich recruiting cities, money and an athletic department that is held accountable for successes and failures.

It really is time to clean house at UTEP. From Stull down to the equipment managers, get those losers and their lack of passion the heck out of town. It isn't personal, it's business.

UTEP should also consider dropping down to one of the football sub-diviions. Continue to participate in other sports at D-1 (similar to Villanova), but football is a lost cause.

Fundamentals: tackling and pass catching. There were quite a few plays where UTEP's defense actually had the RBs in the backfield, but couldn't bring him down. The WRs also dropped too many passes. But you're right, I think there was so much focus on Keenum that the run game was overlooked completely.

Anyway, I can't wait for next weekend's game!! I *HATE* the Aggies

Y'all did fine UTEP; I believe that perhaps not enough preparation was made for our running game. Your QB seemed a bit off-balance as well, but it appears that you have some potential play-makers. Didn't help anything that your running threat was sidelined. Good luck with the remainder of the season!

Wow, I wasn't aware of how many qualified coaches we have in El Paso posting on these boards. With the 2 cents everyone is throwing in on what UTEP should be doing to win games it's a surprise to me that UTEP hasn't hired these people over Mike Price!

Anyway, after I let that sarcasm sink in to you hardheaded critics, the simple thing here is that UTEP got outplayed in every way possible to a much superior team. I really don't see what critics were expecting to happen. UTEP went in as 20 point dogs and if you really think that Houston, with a Heisman caliber QB, was going to lay down to an inferior team, well, maybe you really do belong here on the boards instead of coaching from your couch.

UTEP has some very winnable games coming up in their schedule. It's just that Houston wasn't one of them.

I hate it when people don't acknowledge the fact that UTEP is a bad football team in Division 1 football.

It's cool to see the optimists remain hopeful and have faith. But at some point in time, you just have to accept the reality for what it is.

You have a tired old haggard coach,
Can't seem to get Grade A or B talent
There is no defense.

Its like being the LA Clippers to where you are built on losing seasons and the winnning seasons or successful .500 seasons are far and few in between.

All you UTEP fans, just don't get mad or take offense when people sound like they are knocking the football team. They aren't taking cheap shots. Look outside the box, do the math, lookup the stats from the past to the present.....it is what it is......UTEP is not a good football team.

And if you set yourself up with high expectations (bowl game, winning season) than that's on you.

P.S. Since 2006...UTEP had been 3rd to last in total defense in Conference USA.

ok, so Utep cant handle a high octane UH offensive team, not many teams will beat them but they will lose 1-2 games because of their defense. Utep can still be bowl eligible by beating NMS, UNM, UAB, Rice, Memphis(6-6) and if they upset upset Tulsa, or Marshall they will a 7-5 season!!!! Its not over till its over. I see Utep in the New Orleans bowl or a bust season if players get down.

If MIke Price doesnt get this team to a bowl game then its time to look at all Utep options....CUSA teams are only getting better so utep has to keep up...

The game on ESPN was too late, most people back east didnt watch and ESPN put in their B team announcers...boring/monotone voices, too many commercials, just basic coverage....ESPN regular BCS games are filled with outstnding commentators, TV coreages, etc.......overall all both teams can say is that played on national TV...but not prime time
