There does seem to be some agreement that one of our 1st picks should be on O/L, Pouncey being the man. Question is: Should Pouncey be taken at 12 or is that too high?

I don't believe in OL in the 1st round. Playmakers or skilled guys first. I can find offensive lineman after I find guys who score and defend the touchdown.

Ask Steeler fans if they were happy with taking his brother last year at 20!!!! They will tell you yes..........MIke has the same type of immediate impact potential for an NFL team.......No that is not too high, especially considering the Vikes glaring weakness at a couple spots up there.....Avant we have the best RB in the game NOW they need to get him bigger holes and better running lanes!
But this scenario would have to preclude Newton being gone,Imo, and the Vikes dedicating next year on going the VET. QB route again!8900

Newton...big risk..bust or best QB? Not immediate starter and not that much different from Webb. I'd like to see an immediate starter which IS an up-grade. Do we dare to trade down and still get Pouncey? Sure like to acquire a 3rd rd pick, the one idiot gave away for Moss.

Mike Pouncey can't play center. He can't snap it consistently, so he's a guard. a small guard. I wouldn't take him with the vikings second pick. He's about 300 pounds. Hutch & herrera were both 315 coming out. He's just not a fit for the vikings claimed power running plan. If Bleacher report is looking for a dark horse pick at 12, Illinois DT Luiget's my choice.

The latest report is Locker @12. I liked Pouncey for his versatility but if what you say is true, then Wisniewski is the #1 rated center. With the lock-out, I'm guessing they will go with QB. Any FA they bring in will have as much to learn as a rookie.

I keep telling you they will draft a long snapper and I think it is a brilliant move. Ater all he will handle the ball on most Queen drives this year

You're joking, right?

FACT: Offensive linemen on average have the longest NFL careers.

FACT: Non-QB skill position players have the shortest average careers.

Think about it. Linemen who don't get tackled, who don't make hard cuts that wear out their joints, and who are bigger than almost all the other players on the field last longer.

Your logic is backwards. As boring as it may be to see your favorite team take offensive and defensive linemen in the first round, history proves that it's a road to success. And a lot of legendary NFL coaches say the same thing.

I just traded the 12th for Palmer.
Traded down in the 2nd and picked up a 3rd and drafted Dalton or Stanzi, who I'm developing over the next 4 years.
Sorry guys,
the #1 need is just that
and
that's the way it's going down.
Other areas will have to be through eventual free agency.
Wanted Cinny 3rd and Palmer for the 12th but their was to much competition.

and with the 3rd we're taking CB if we don't get a free agent CB.
WR and O-line absolutely have to be addressed through free agency because their the #2 and 3 needs, plus we need both to step right in and the 12th was traded for Palmer.
2nd has to be our QB because by the time the 3rd rolls around the best and 2nd tier will be gone.
Can easily see teams like N.E. and Colts taking a Qb in the 2nd,plus all the teams that actually need a qb will be taking theirs.
I can see as many as 18 teams wanting a qb.,of course there aren't that many
but it's important we strike in the 2nd not 3rd on that matter.
I already identified to myself teams that need or would think about taking a qb of the top 8.

The only thing with Palmer is he had a decent run game (not as good as having AP in the back field) and IMO a decent WR corps....and he sucked. I watched a few replay games on NFL Network, out of pure boredom, and he just was not accurate at all with his passes. Maybe a change of scenery would do him some justis but he looks to on a serious down slide.

Actually, Palmers numbers other than his INT's, were good if you look at them for the 2010 season...but the 20 INT's is what I was leading to.

PF I can't believe me and you disagree so much when it comes to the subject of the Vikings winning a SB someday.

D-LINE IS Not a prob........yet, O-lineman and a very solid DB ARE priorities in this draft Provided the Vikes attain a good FA QB.

Castonzo, or even Carimi are also picks on the O line the Vikes should grab with their #1.

Look in the archives, lol, me and you were on the same page last draft as far as McCoy and I believe we both agreed on Devin McCOURTY(SP). More specific McCoy if he was available in the 2nd or 3rd round......he was.

BUT POUNCEY was a possibility for the Vikes at 30 and the Steeler's got him at 20. My point is grab a Oline guy and then a QB later this draft......Vikes would have McCoy now, wouldn't have 2 worry about Webb being a starter so get a solid line guy with this first pick. Vikes maybe should have trade up to get Maurkice last draft.

You actually may be on to something even though Palmer hasnt been hot lately. Palmer trade is the most intriguing move vs going after one of the F/A QB's. It looks like a who's who list of rejects.

Hasselbeck: wouldnt last behind the O-Line...one hit and is done
Bulger: Washed up
Alex Smith: A huge gamble
Kerry Collins: LOL
Troy Smith: LMAO
Chad Pennington: A weak possibility but something is up with him for Miami to want to stick with a loser like Henne over him.

The rest are not even worth mentioning.

I'd have no problem taking one of the top 2 corners at 12. Basically, 33% of the time, the #1 pass ddfense wins the superbowl including last year. I do disagree with your defensive line assesment. If you look at the numbers from last year, our d-line was terrible against the pass. We did not get the push in the middle we needed & now we're losing Edwards, it appears. DT's a huge need. Phat is gone & KWill was suspect last year. In regards to the offensive line, we need a center first & foremost. Carimi is a Loadholdt type-guy. a RT. Just can't see taking him before about pick 24. The USC prospect LT played last year at 280 lbs & exclusively RT. He's the only one who could potentially be a dominant LT, but he's always played too small & at RT, where he's never faced an elite pass rusher. So there's no tackle worth taking at 12. Cast & solder? again, just not elite LT material & not an upgrade over McKinney. We need guard help & center help. Pouncey is not the player his brother is & he is too small to be an elite guard. He stinks at center, where his twin plays, so why take him? unfortunately, the depth in this class does not match the vikings needs on the offensive line. But it does match our needs at defensive line. At corner, there's only 2 worth taking at 12. the other 2 more like mid-20's I'd say. So i guess I'd like to see a QB picked at 2 - stanzi from Iowa if we get the BPA at 12 or trade down for extra picks.

Check the offensive line stats for the vikings & you'll be surprised. our o-line isn't as terrible as you make out & is far better than green bay's. We need a better pass rush - better pass defense in general. we need a #1 wr who'll be on the field, we need a QB. hopefully, some of that gets addressed, if not all. Again, check the stats, not just your feelings. your gut is off on O-line. Ours was better than Pitt or GB. I'd like it to get better, but that's not why we stunk last year

ok, i decided to re-post the research here for u.

Offensive line rankings
run
23 -green bay
19 -pittsburg
3 -ny jets
28 -chicago
11- vikes

pass
21 -green bay
29 -pittsburgh
8 -ny jets
32 -chicago
19 -Vikings

So, the vikings offensive line is vastly superior to every championship game competitor not named jets (uh, they lost).

Defefnsive line
run
20 -green bay
1 -pittsburgh
5 -NY Jets
2 -Chicago
6 -Vikings
(we compare just fine here, right?)
pass
4 -green bay
3 -pittsburgh
11 -NY Jets
21 -Chicago
26 -Vikings
(huh, we suck compared with everyone, even the pretenbears)

So, when comparing viking offensive & defensive lines with last year's good teams, the only thing we don't compare well on is pass rush. We were 26th out of 32 teams & we're throwing away last year's best defensive lineman for us (per football focusm, edwards was 7th)

defense overall:
2 -green bay
1 -pittsburgh
5 -ny jets
4 -chicago
16 -Vikings

pass:
1 -green bay
2 -pittsburgh
7 -ny jets
5 -chicago
19 -Vikings

Pretty obvious we need help here, right? Again, since 1940, the #1 pass defense has won the title 1/3rd of the time.#1, not top 5.#1. so it's kinda important, wouldn't u say? & quite obviously, the weakest part of our pass defense last year was the defensive line per the statistics. That's just the way it was with the cold hard facts.

oh, i guess is hould support my contention WR's way more of a need than o-line as well.

offense
10 -green bay
3 -pitt
20 -ny jets
25 -chicago

vikes - 29th (30th passing, 9th rushing)
in 2009, vikes were 9th in offensive efficiency.

What's the only difference in the 2010 vikings compared with the 2009 vikings personell-wise? Sidney Rice was hurt yet again.(basically, he's not been hurt 1 out of 4 years thus far.) Now, wr's can be found later in the draft a lot of times, but if there's not a QB at 12 the vikings like, but Julio Jones is, how do you not take him? Sidney Rice is testing free agency, remember.
