I hope he punches Favre right in the ear on day one, just to set the tone.

Is it fair to make comparisons with his father Buddy, who was a great assistant coach but somewhat lacking as a head coach? Will Rex Ryan join Walt Michaels as the second Jet hire as "first time as head coach" to have moderate success? Holtz, Walton, Coslet, Mangini, Carroll, Groh..it's not an impressive list.

It's all about personnel -pure talent and character/attitude- qualities found in short supply on Jets teams no matter how innovative the coach. Ryan, no doubt aware of this traditional setting, will be aiming for the "Mangini Effect": wring enough decent showings from this hapless club so that he'll land on his feet with another, less hopeless, organization.

Hey Rich - lighten up, dick (I love that nickname for "Rich"). It's not a "woebegone franchise", the Jets actually have a pretty good winning % the last decade. While they haven't won or been in the SB in a while, that's true of a lot of teams (the Lions are woebegone, the Jets haven't won big in a long time, but about a dozen teams haven't ever been in or won the SB). This kind of reporting is what keeps the "same old Jets" mentality alive. Perhaps it should be "same old Jets reporters" - does everything have to be Uber-sensational???
