Tice understood the game of football. Childress understands the business of football. Now, if Zygie would acknowledge that he hired Childress because of the business of football, and acknowledge that Childress has failed in that regard, we could get on with finding a coach who understands both.

Yep, agreed...

And preferably sooner rather than later before someone else hires Bill Cowher.

There isn't a doubt in my mind that Tice is twice the football coach that Klink is. To do as well as the Vikes did, with the little that Tice had, speaks volumes to his abilities. Given Wilf's resources Tice would've had this club in the playoffs every season.

Tice was a players coach; he let them do anything their little hearts desired, including the love boat. Tice pretty much ruined Culpepper by bending over backwards to satisfy Daunte' and Randy's every whim.
To say that Tice was coaching a bunch of stiffs is ignorant at best, but mostly just because no one can stand Chilly.
Tice may have understood how to relate to the players, but with the Randy ratio and other off the wall coaching flaws, Mike was no Big Tuna.
By the way, Tice is still looking for the next HC job, if he was so great, why is he still laboring as an assistant?
One area in which I think we can all agree is that Chilly will not be considered for another head coaching job, except in Green Bay. I understand that the packers would love to give Chilly his long overdue interview.

Accountability? Childress hasn't changed a thing. Koren was on his watch. Dwight Smith was his, also. And how about on the field? The false starts and holding penalties.
I always thought Tice was a little rough around the edges. And at the end the players were not responding to him on game day.
The players have never seemed to respond to Chili. And now the way he's not using AP he's risking alienating him for the future.

Wilf, you seem like an owner who isnt afraid to do whats right for the fans and the city. I have noticed the far more contributions to the comunity than OL'Red.The only issue I have with you is your head coach choice. I believe this is close to being a championship team, but it will never happen under childress. Maybe you can try to find a consulting firm to help you find a more rounded head coach. This is not a knock on you. Good luck.

If Tice is such a genius, why is he an offensive line coach for his best buddy ?
Why is it that the league is blind to his magic ?
Because he stole tickets, encouraged "boys will be boys" mentality off the field, called out Hovan on national TV, or could not handle Baby Moss ?
I think it was because he is a big goof.

Tice let the players do whatever they wanted? Did you even READ the article? McKinnie SAID that Tice had NO IDEA what had been planned regarding the boat incident... It took place during the BYE WEEK, when they were not "on the clock". Is your boss responsible for your actions when you aren't at work? Tice also admitted that the "Randy Ratio" didn't work, admitting a mistake... Ever hear Chilly do that??? If you recall, Tice was a scapegoat in the ticket scalping situation also. It was widely publicized that all 32 teams took part in super bowl ticket scalping, but it was always performed by an underling. Tice's mistake was to not delegate that matter. Tice was admittedly "unpolished" as a HC, but also remember that he hadn't even been a coordinator, and he was LEARNING on the job. His replacement hasn't shown that particular characteristic. For my money, Tice was HEAD & SHOULDERS above Chilly as a coach.

Did you put all your money on that team coached by Tice today?
HOWL!!!!!!
I think Tice was ratted out by Chris Hovan with the SB tickets, and he probably deserved it.
I like Tice as a person, but I put him on about the same level as Childress as a head coach.
And yes, Childress has admitted mistakes, and if you don't know of any, you can't be much of a fan.

Tice will probably never be a head coach in the NFL. He made so many mistakes in his handling of players, complicate that with the Super Bowl ticket fiasco and that sealed his fate. I agree that his football knowledge was very good especially compared to what we have now with Klink. To Tice's defense he had the misfortune of working for one of the cheapest, Bull Cockey NFL football owners in McComb and that may have contributed to some of his problems. This team needs a coach who knows how to maximize his weapons he has on offense and yet be a strong leader. Is Cowher the answer, I don't know, but if he was so good, why hasn't some other team hired him?

Chilly, made the mistake of over estimating his talent in developing QB's. He let Daunte go before he set foot in Minnesota. Then he drafted TJ and it took him two years to figure out that he was not about to develop him. Now I guess Booty will be our next star QB.
Chilly takes credit for developing McNabb- I think it is the other way around. McNabb made it possible for Chilly to get a head coaching job.
... and we are the ones who took the bait.

Tice might have been better that Childress, but that's not saying a whole lot. Neither are really cut out to be head coaches in the NFL. Perfectly good assistants, but not head coaches.

Also - don't forget - Tice would have cut EJ Henderson by now. EJ was the vikings' best linebacker back in the Tice era (as he is now), except Tice wasn't able to recognize it.

Scott Linehan remorse. Not even as a joke.

Mike Tomlin remorse. Yup.
Tony Dungy remorse. Daily.
Next year's short list?
Bill Cowher: Probably the guy that will be in the most demand. Will he WANT Minnesota? Start working on him Zygi!
Mike Martz: Mad genius? Just a nutcake? I don't want to know.
Jim Fassel: I like him as much as Cowher. Good balance. Can line him up now.
Steve Spgnuolo: Will be in high demand but hard to land if Giants go deep in post season.
Who else?
You "hit it" with Fassel !!! AD will run WILD with a Fassel offense scheme.

Comparing Tice to Childress is like comparing Curly to Larry. They are both stooges!
