PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Polamalu's value immense

OK, so Troy Polamalu isn't perfect. Polamalu's 45-yard interception return for a touchdown rallied the Pittsburgh Steelers after they fell behind Cincinnati 7-0 on Sunday, and he later sealed their 23-7 victory with a second interception that ended the Bengals' best drive since the first quarter. I hope he plays this weekend, there are weekends I don't get to watch the coverage cause of the time or channels the games are on. I do get to watch it this weekend and I hope to see him on the field playing, please Troy don't let me down, I'm a huge fan. Some of the plays that I have seen him play in the past are re-markable.

This is laughable. Palumalu is wacky hair with maybe a slightly-above-average NFL safety attached to it. No one would have any clue who this guy was if he shaved his head and didn't play for the Steelers. Seriously - he may be one of the most overrated players in the history of the NFL. He's not even the best safety on the Steelers, let alone the league. When was the last time a defensive player was talked up as much as the QB? He's a novelty, a gimmick. Add to that a string of injuries and inconsistent play.

I'm happy to give him credit as a pretty good safety - but come on, I'm really getting tired of hearing about him and his ridiculous hair.

I can't wait to see the Jets beat them at home this weekend.

How can you compare the Steelers to the Jets?

Look at their defense - points allowed.

Are the Jets known for a long history of GREATY DEFENSE?

Well, smartpants?

6 Super Bowls.

Jets have one (1). UNO. 41 years ago. Back when I was 7 years old.

Look around. You will Steeler fans EVERYWHERE. I don't care what part of the country you live in.
Steeler fans will travel to Seattle to see their team play. Sometimes when the Ravens play the Steelers in Baltimore, you'd think you were in Heinz Field.

Jets are just another AFC team that can't win The Big One. All talk, no do.

WIN ONE FOR TROY.

First of all, watch that fan base dry up as soon as the Steelers start loosing a few seasons in a row. Fair weather fans at their finest - gotta love the teams that are good. That doesn't really explain why people still like the Cowboys, but you know what Cowboys fans are like - not the smartest kids in the class if you know what I mean.

Yes, the Steelers have a winning history - recent in fact - and command my respect.

Which will all just make a Jets win today that much better.

It's easy to be a Steelers fan - they're the Yankees of the NFL.

Try supporting a lousy team for 20 years. Now that's dedication!

Jets win. Let's hear the excuses... I've heard plenty for every Steelers loss this year so far.

I thought it was a great game and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. See ya in the playoffs.

The Steelers tend to lose when Polamalu's not playing. Do you detect a pattern? My guess is that we'll see this "slightly above average safety" in the Hall of Fame.

No excuses. Streak had to end sometime. First time the Jets had won in PA in a long time - Steelers or Eagles. Jets QB looked ok.

Assuming Steelers beat Carolina & Cleveland, they'll end the regular season 12-4. Not too shabby.

Moving on...

Troy is a "dirty player"? Huh? Please give me examples of his dirty play.

How do you rape a girl in a crowded nightclub?

Pretty sad when a team's winnings depend on ONE player.

It was a pleasure to NOT see too much of those yellow azzwipers waving yesterday! LOL!

It's just a coincidence - no defensive player can have such a substantial impact on a team's record. The Steelers were winning games long before Palumalu came along. He's a fan favorite because his hair makes him instantly recognizable to spectators which makes it seem like he's doing more than the other players. Shave his head, stick him on the Lions and no one would know who he was.

As for the hall of fame, there a lot of great defensive players who have been snubbed, mainly because they played defense. Palumalu likely won't be just because of his notoriety, which I still insist is based almost entirely on his hair and a charming personality.

That's assuming that injuries don't continue to plague him and limit his playing time for the rest of his career. Palumalu's a good safety, but he's absolutely overrated - which is easy to sell when you have such a huge fanbase.

Troy is an integral part of the defense. No question about that. He inspires other players to take their game up a notch or two.

Prior to the Jets game, Steelers D allowed an average of only 9 points per game in its past four.

Pats can't say dat.
But the Steelers can certainly win without Troy. And they have of course.

Who wouldn't like to have a player like Troy on their team's defense?

Just make it to the playoffs. Then it doesn't matter what you did in the regular season. Steelers have proven they can win playoff games on the road. They won a Super Bowl at the end of that season.
