Daniels may have the size the Raiders are looking for to help open holes. To me, the biggest question is why Luke Lawton seems to be the "returning starter". Last year, the Raider rushing game was not that great and Lawton did not do anything that special. It wil be interesting to see all these guys play in preseason to determine if Lawton (and his two suspended games) actually deserves a roster spot.

Luke Lawton is not the greatest fullback in the league, but he's been the best we've had the last few years. I like that Cable is willing to try players that are not likely to make the team at their current positions at other positions that we need improvement in.

I'm really surprised that last year they didn't pull Zack Crockett out of the office and suit him up.

I am not sure if Lawton earned the position. He has been on the team for two years and the running game has not been acceptable the past two years. It seems that he was a bubble player that "benefitted" from O'Neal's injury and the release of the more expensive Griffinth. Again, with five guys going for the position, I would like to see Lawton earn the position rather than seeing him labeled the "returning starter".

there is two guys that are doing well in competition for (rb) behind mcfadden and bush. that is micheal bennett and rock cartwright. but because dmac (hamstring) is out, i think cartwright will be the starter. from what i saw earlier was that manase tonga and chane molin were looking to get the (fb) position but both have foot injury's. it just so happens that (de) l houston and alex daniels both tried out for (fb) and daniels became the favorite to start. with lawtons suspension and the others with injuries, daniels is the man.

I thought Cartwright was playing some FB in practice in addition to RB. Anyway, I am not sure why the Raiders can not keep both Bennett and Cartwright if needed. It seemed that they were heavy at WR last year (Walker and Miller) and would have room especially if Cartwright was the return man on kick-offs.

i want to see miller take off where he left off last year. he seemed to be the man returning punts until his injury! with so many litte injuries players are getting tested at at all positions it seems like. cartwright was getting try outs for (fb) but with mcfadden out he may just be the man at (rb) along side bush till dmac (hamstring)comes back.

If the Raiders can develop Daniels the way Baltimore did LeRon McClain at fullback, the running game would improve greatly. McClain weighs over 260 and is one of the reasons Willis McGahee and Ray Rice each averaged over 5 yards a carry. And it's almost like having another offensive lineman protecting the QB.
