Oakland Raiders Should Cut the Cable

Oct 5, 2010 Full story: Bleacher Report 17

Tom Cable joined the Oakland Raiders as their offensive line coach in 2007 after having one year of NFL experience with the Atlanta Falcons at the same position the year before.

Totally disagree. This off season we addres the O-line. He had to rebuild the Raiders not an easy task by any standard. The only thing he is guilty of is addressing the D first...but that can be argued either way. As long as the team is still fighting give him another year to make a statement.

I don't know, the O line hasnt got much better under Cable and its supposed to be his area of expertise.
I think he's got the next game, 2 at the most. 1 or 2 losses and Uncle Al will fire him and promote Jackson I reckon.
I hate to say it, but the more all this goes on the way it does, the more I think it won't really change until Al goes or give up his control over the team. The last 8 years have seen the same result pretty much, coaches have come and gone, players have come and gone but it's still the same, so there must be something constant there during the last 8 years that's infuencing the end product.
I dont know what it is exactly, but until that goes or changes then odds are it will continue.

03-05 turner was 9-23
06 shell was 2-14
07-08 kiffin was5-15
08 to present cable is 9-19
i'm at the line of no and yes. but recently leaning toward the yes. i don't mind that he adressed the (D) first, i really don't. but i do agree that he should have fixed the (O) first. right now some of the play calling and his losses are so so. with that record you can see other coaches here got fired. we have a seven year slump and adding more losses for another year is risky. right now we have the chargers who we really need to beat to end the slosing streak and kc who jumped to the top where we could be. denver is playing better than us so, unless there are some quick wins and cable proves that it was all tweaks that needed to be fixed, he may just be on the hottest seat. to be honest? i hope he stays and proves us all wrong. but?

I would have to disagree. Compared to last year, the Raiders are improved. The offense can score points, the running game exists (o-line) and the passing game has made more plays (o-line). The defense is better, but they still have the situation that when one-guy misses it seems to break for a long run (scheme or players?). Having said that, when McFadden breaks a long run against a team, why is it that McFadden and the O-line did a great job and when it goes against the Raiders, it is the fault of the Raider Defense?

they say coaches need more time to get a team together. cable is 9-19, thats 9games won and 19LOST! "nine teen". he took over when in 08? and now its the 5th game comming up in 2010. i could see if we had changes in our W's but it's the same. i know we have improved in (O) and (D) line running and passing as well but, "WINS", W'S are what we need. and that is coachings fault if you ask me? but, don't ask me.(lol). we cannot continue losses to san diego? we are so far apart in all time wins vs the chargers and the broncos. and the cheifs are so far apart in wins vs RAIDERS. we can't continue to fall back further to the cheifs? again we ask should we change a coach again? it's not good for the team right? but it hasn't gotten better as far as W's and changing a coach is a gamble. sometimes you have to gamble in that way. we have changed coaches so much that it hasn't paid off. but i'm willing to gamble again. specially if hue is in there. he knows the ravens style of (D) and can change mcclain like ray lewis. and he can change gradkowski even better. word is players respond well to him. who knows, cable better do something impressive vs san diego. "play dirty and win"!

Changing to Hue will only weaken the team as it will take away from his duties as OC. Also, Rex Ryan may teach a few things to Mclain, but not Hue. Rob Ryan could not change Morrison. As far as the wins, it is not fair to strap Cable with past seasons considering the team was weak at QB and that he coached half a season after the organization was recovering from the Kiffin ordeal. They key is the team has improved and will only get better (they should be 2-2). San Diego will be tough this week. San Diego would be tough for any opponent. The point is the Raiders will be better over the long term with coaching stability and Tom Cable is the right guy for the organization.

funny the sportscasters made a comment about cable fitting that RAIDER coach image, and i was like yea he does! man, i hope you guys are right. like i said, im right at that line of yey and ney. right now it's all about going with the flow and hoping that we have more wins and that they fix whatever is faltering at the line.
speak about fixing. RAIDERS bruce davis. son of former RAIDER bruce davis. RAIDERS signed b davis from the niners practice squad. the squeelers picked him up in the 08 draft in the 3rd rnd.
RAIDERS also cut jay alford and joey thomas.

Tom Cable is not the problem. JBust is gone, JCampbell didn't get the job done, Gradkowski came in and did. Gradkowski is our man at QB for now. DMac is looking like and NFL RB now so He and Bush area good 1-2 punch. Louis Murphy is our best WR because he can stay healthy and makes things happen. DHB has passed his stats from last year minus a TD. The whole OL is an issue. Carlisle is getting up there. Satelle is a mistake. Walker is the guy that Green was supposed to be an upgrade over in the first place. Henderson is inconsistant. Gallery is good when healthy, but I think he's an injury risk now after missing half of last season and getting injured in week 1 this season and has been out ever since. Veldheer and BCampbell are still rookies so it's too early to judge them. Defense is good when rested, but when they play 90% of the game because the offense can't move the ball, then the offense is the problem, not defense.

The more I think about it, if we don't address the OL this offseason, then I will lose respect for Cable because OL is supposed to be his strength.

please no! this is the last thing we need. Cable has vastly improved this team simply by convincing Al to let Gradkowski start. we should be 2-2 if the best Kicker in the league doesn't miss a chip shot. but more important than the record, or all these stats, the players believe in Tom Cable and they play hard for him. This is the same argument i have here in Jacksonville w/ people about Del Rio. I don't care how good of a coach you are, you have to have talent to win. i say we let him finish the year if we aren't at least 6-10 or better than we let him go, but if we can get some wins this year then let him continue to build this team. Under Cable we've gone from being destoryed by the great teams and barely beating the bad ones to competing with everyone. I say give him 2 years w/o J Bust and see what he can build

you know featherman, RAIDERS are 1-3 donkeys and chargeless are 2-2 and kc is 3-0. it's just the beggining of the season. it is too early to judge cable but we could have won at home against az. if we would have been 2-2 i'd say, okay, we are still okay. now mcfaden got injured j henderson got injured. seymour does not look 100% gallery has missed three games schilens? well schilens is another story. gradkowski bruised his knee. can you imagine if gradkowski is out? he may be tough but he needs to play smart there. maybe injuries are reasons for our losses and cable gets the blame. even the first game vs tennessee, even though we lost that game the team looked put together. our last game vs the texans we looked lost out there. i blame the coaches they looked lost and of course the team will line up wrong and look lost. i hope our losses are due to injury. only thing i can think of? if not, cable is to blame. i'm on your side, i like cable, players like cable there is improvement but the W's on cable are not showing cable is the man!
