Full story: TwinCities.com

The quality of the Vikings' quarterbacks is debatable, but the quantity certainly is not.

I'm getting conflicted messages now. This column says bouts of inconsistency from Jackson, but several others I have read mention how much he's improved. Which is it?

Obviously it's too early to tell. We will have a much better idea after the third regular season game. With five QB's in camp, at least there are some options, even though none of them have outstanding credentials.

Booty would be the best West Coast QB, by far, as that is what he did in college, and is much smarter and quicker thinking than TJack.

Booty should make it as 3rd and rise to 2nd before the season's end. This makes hijm one hit away from being # 1. If he gets a shot at the end of this year or the next, I bet he takes it and make it his own. While he may not have the cannon of TJ, if he wins and the balls come out quicker and more decisive and more accurate than TJ eventually he will get nod over TJ. Booty will make TJ talk of improvement have to become a reality if TJ wants to keep his spot in 2009. It seems as if Booty will not rock the boat, but just be ready when the time comes. Hopefully when the time does come the coaches will stay with the best QB no matter whether it is "ready to roll Booty" or "new and improved TJ". The other two guys are just here for injuries during the preseason. Come regular season they are gone. A draft pick for BB, are you joking. The only one foolish enough for that is our current coach.

Exactly Anne, I get a kick out the numerous comments I have seen since the draft about how Booty is smarter than TJack. These are just pure assumptions based on prehistoric stereotypes. Booty is overhyped because he played at USC and got national recognition. The reality is that there are reasons that he wasn't selected until the 5th round. Don't bank on Booty to be the savior if TJack doesn't pan out this year. You're delusional if you do.

That's true. But I mean, 3 out of the 5 have played three years or less, they need time to get credentials. Gus should be a solid backup at the very least.

Last year we were too clever by half in trying to slide Thigpen through on waivers and lost him to KC. Maybe we can double-fake this year and try to slide Bollinger through waivers only to have another team claim him with a thoughtless reflex action, Jeopardy-style. Not a bad outcome: Bollinger can stay employed and we can have our QB rotation set.

Who cares if a football player gets questions like this right?

Arnold is about to go on a 500-mile car trip. His mechanic recommends that he buy a special highway engine oil that will save him 50 cents in gas for every 25 miles of the trip. This new oil, however, will cost $20. Is it worthwhile for Arnold to buy the oil if he has a coupon for $4 dollars off the price?

In the time it takes to read this question alone it would be too late for whatever it is he'd need to do. LOL

"But it is not a surprise that the Vikings have five players at the coach's pet position, because Childress, along with quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, revels in unearthing talent at the position and developing quarterbacks in the West Coast offense."

Hilarious! When is this "development" going to start? Clueless obviously can't develop anything (including hair follicles) although it's true he does continue to "unearth" stiffs at the QB position. T-Joke will never be NFL caliber, Gus isn't a has-been... he's a never-was, Bollinger is a career third stringer, Booty is a fifth-round rookie and Wright went drafted... wow. What does it say about a head coach when his "specialty" continues to be the unquestioned worst position on the team?

So you're going to judge Booty on what round he's drafted, Jackson on about 14 games, and Wright on the fact he didn't make it to the draft.

Now I'm not saying that Booty is going to be as good as Brady, and I'm sure you already know this, but Brady was drafted in the 6th round, and he's not one of the top 3 QBs in the league. He has been for a while.

I don't know enough about Wright to say anything, but regarding Jackson just ease off. You obviously think you can just plop anybody into the NFL and expect spectacular results. No, it doesn't work that way. These things take time. Saying Jackson will never be NFL caliber is pretty ignorant. He wasn't the worst QB in the league last season, and he showed improvement from when it started to where it ended. Ease off, give him a chance, and THEN rip on him all you want.

T-Joke has shown me enough to say he will never have it - you can disagree - time will tell. My main point is that Childress has done nothing to improve the talent level at this very vital position. People had no problem ripping Holcomb or Bollinger but seem to forget that it was the idiot coach who brought them in in the first place. People want to cut Tarvaris slack because he had lousy receivers - who assembled those lousy receivers? I don't blame Jackson, I'm sure he's doing the best he can, I blame Childress for being stubborn, unrealistic and incapable of judging or developing talent at the QB position.

Childress is a fool for going into a possible superbowl season If we just had a good starting QB. T-Jack couldnt pass with 8-9 guys commited to A Peterson. He should have planned for Jackson to be a backup for a few more years. He cannot move a offense and has no right to be a starter. If you remember the vikes won most there games last season with Defensive TDS and AP not T Jack TDS. We would be so lucky to get a few Defensive TDS next year.He sucks childress we need a superbowl not a 8-8 season. I hope there is a few vet free agent qbs available after training camp or we might be in for a 5-11 season. Then we might get a real coach not just a guy with 1 phone # on speed dial the phily Eagles for a possible trade.

I don't see where the issue here is. My point being is that TJack will be the QB whether or not anybody likes it or not.
The real issue will be if McKinney loses his job with the Vike's. If he does, the team will have a weak spot on the Offensive line and it wont matter who's passing the ball with other teams exposing that weakness. If McKinney doesn't get dealt away, we have a better chance than ever even if he gets suspended. And his suspension should be early in the season rather than later, but that should depend upon how Goodell wants to run the show.Timing will be the critical factor here and Goodell knows it.
