Are his hands tied?

There are 5 comments on the The Wichita Eagle story from Dec 10, 2007, titled Are his hands tied?. In it, The Wichita Eagle reports that:

“I don't think that will be a problem at all. If he's hurt, you get him out. But, no he's got to finish the season. A lot of them go through it. You hate putting him through it. But it's part of it for him.”

Woeful offense complicates Croyle evaluation

The need for the Kansas City Chiefs to evaluate Brodie Croyle and decide whether he is indeed their quarterback of the future becomes more important with every mounting defeat. The Chiefs, losers of six straight games and owners of a 4-9 record , are headed for a premium draft spot. They are almost certain to select in the top 10 and could squeeze into the top five, where a quarterback like Matt Ryan of Boston College might prove too tempting for them to pass up. Read more

They're the chiefs ... not the Chiefs.

Trying to evalute Brodie Croyle in the current KC chief's offense is like giving someone the choice between death by firing squad or hanging.

The problem isn't Croyle .... the problem is the system, the offensive design, the passive philosophy ingrained in Herm-speak.

It would take someone with no balls, absolute job security and a complete lack of "fire in the belly" [a.k.a. Carl Petersen] to be impressed with Herm's vision of success. "Keep it close ... minimize risk".

Carl Petersen should be ashamed!! The chiefs went from number one to number none, because they don't have an offense.

The chiefs don't need a new QB ... they need a good offensive coordinator, with an attack plan to score on every play [run or pass], not control the ball or gain 4 yards. They need to improve in the O-Line .... coach them for cripes sake .. ever heard of a cut block [they can't block like men so they may as well block like pussys ... the Broncos won two super Bowls doing it!!].

Boy ... what most chief's fans wouldn't give to have Marty on the sidelines screaming to his troop to "Smash'em in the mouth!!!"

Many sportswriters around the country and especially one for the Tampa Tribune have been very critical of Croyle every chance they get. It's always "the Chiefs need a new QB." I wonder how well any QB would do under that constant pass rush, no running game and multiple sacks. I know that these overrated sportswriters would cut and run under such pressure.Croyle is a hard nosed guy that wants to win. Give him time in the pocket and he will cut defenses up. Time in the pocket at KC is not a reality, however.

If Croyle was in a situation as lets say Brady or Manning he would have great success but would would still make rooky mistakes which is expected. Of course not saying he is comparable to those QBs, only using there support in the rest of the team as an example. I think he is going to be the guy and they will shift there focus to the rest of the Offense and then they will be putting points on the board and making the defense even better than it is because they will have more ball control.

Can't wait till next year.

It does not matter how you quack it up a sitting duck is still a dead duck. That is what Croyle is right now so to evaluate him right now would not be fair. What is needed is an offensive coordinator with balls to use the tools at hand. Herm can say keep it close all he wants but when they score 21 and we have "3" it usually ends up as a big "L". So Herm shut up and score some points..........I am tired of losing.......

Generally good comments but I believe the problems we are witnessing are the result of poor leadership from the GM. Brodie is going to be fine and is just green. You can't expect him to step back and "air it out" with no protection. He'd be the next Chad Pennington!!! The fact that Bowe has over 800 yds is a testiment to get it out quickly and his ability to make plays after the catch. No, our problems are deeper and no "patch job" will cure what ails us. What was the game plan for replacing Willie and Will when they got to retirement age? Then the fans were looking for Champ Bailey and Ty Law as our new found saviors. Where was Carl with a long term vision? Some could even ask WHAT SYSTEM? I don't know if Herm is right in his vision and current direction, but I see an attempt at building a strong smash mouth defense and a running game along with a field position punter. Moreover, I see a foundation being built. Whether or not Herm's philosophy and approach is the right one, I don't know. Nov and Dec football requires a line and the off season movement and draft picks are what I'm waiting for. There is also a rumor that a deal is out there with the Jets for a number 1 pick next year....Carl, do that and it won't be a Tree Lighting ceremony on Thanksgiving, it'll be a Bar-B-Q and you're the guest of honor....start thinking about a left tackle. Get off the quick fix and cultivate a system of young players and depth. course thats just my opinion.....
