Leonard catching on quickly
“I didn't have to make anybody miss. I just had to pick up my legs to get over a couple of arms. My (offensive line) did a great job on that, and my receivers did a great job on that, too.”
Rookie running back Brian Leonard showed in his first preseason game that he's capable of handling the kind of diverse work load that the St. Louis Rams envisioned of him when they took him in the second round of the 2007 NFL draft.
Leonard rushed nine times for 36 yards and one touchdown, and had five receptions for 30 yards in the Rams' 13-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.
'When we drafted him, our thoughts were for him to be a third-down back who gives us some size at the tailback position, where he can (pass) protect on those downs and to be a guy who can fill in for Steven (Jackson) to give him a rest,' Rams offensive coordinator Greg Olson said. 'I thought just from the first preseason game, he met all of those expectations we had for him.' Read more

Typical evaluation of a white back who if he was black would get a lot more enthusiasm from the coaches and the media. Our history of racism has come full circle and there are assumptions about black quarterbacks which are finally starting to fade. However, what are the odds that in a country of 300 million people there are no starting white tailbacks in either the NFL or Division 1? Top high school all state white tailbacks with tremendous speed are funneled into tight end, linebacker or fullback upon entering a Division 1 school. The same holds for cornerbacks and white talents are pushed immediately to safety because they lack "loose hips." Is that racist or what?
And, in the combine both Brian Leonard and Marshawn Lynch ran a 4.47 40 yd dash. Lynch's time got rounded down to 4.4 while Leonard's got rounded up to 4.5. We have a long way to go in this country. All the top white players in the NBA are from other countries. Now why is that? How can Serbia produce so many white NBA players while a larger "country" like California for example can't? Just think about it.

What? Nothing in the article had anything to do with racism.
Also, Leonard actually ran a 4.52. Lynch ran a 4.46. Leonard was considered one of the Top 5 overall Backs in the draft and he was the 5th Back taken in the draft. Leonard has gotten plenty of media hype and coverage, especially from his coaches in St.Louis. Just Google him.
Leonard will break some tackles, has great hands, versatile, good blocker but he has an obvious lack of breakaway speed.

As a Rutgers fan who watched Brian over the last four years, I can tell you that the Rams have made a great choice. This kid has so much talent and more importantly, a tremendous heart. Over time he will bring the fans plenty of excitement. wait till he LEAPS over defenders !!
