Mike Lynn is either a huge D-BAG about football or he got something for himself for the Walker trade. Knowing his business sense (still getting $$$$$$ for dome suites)he made out like a bandit.

Don't want to even read his response. THIS WAS THE WORST/UNEVEN TRADE IN NFL HISTORY!

EVERY URINAL IN THE METRODOME SHOULD HAVE MIKE LYNN'S PICTURE IN IT!

Do you know this F-stick is getting money from every suite in the Metrodome and the dumb DFL legislature agreed to it??

Lynn is another example of how not to run a professional sports team. Way to remind us of that time period Sansevere.

That trade was only about money. It had nothing to do with Mike Lynn trying to find the final piece of the Super Bowl puzzle. I remember when Lynn was quoted as saying that he would never pay a player more than he was making. This trade occurred during the transition time when the players' contracts were beginning to exceed those of the team executives. By trading away 3 or 4 years worth of top picks, Lynn managed to avoid having to pay top salaries to top draft picks. Mike Lynn should be remembered for gutting the Vikings, and nothing more -- except for also squeezing a sweetheart deal for himself out of the luxury box rentals at the dome. Good riddance -- Mississippi can have him!

I believe it was actually 3 first-round picks that the Vikes gave up, and fans had to suffer many years of mediocrity after that. I don't think there was anything shady about the deal, but Lynn was an egomaniac who was willing to trade the club's future for the thrill of winning a Super Bowl. To Lynn's credit, Herschel was a stud with great numbers, but he proved to be a dog on arrival and a head case to boot. To top that off, Jerry Burns and the rest of the coaching staff felt that Lynn was stuffing Herschel down their throats, as they waved goodbye to hard working players with class, like Darrin Nelson and linebacker David Howard. Herschel was just too "out-there" to repair the team's shattered chemistry, and he just wasn't the kind of back the team (except Lynn) wanted. The bottom line was Lynn gambled and lost, big time.

I've been saying this forever, someone outside the NFL needs to seriously investigate this trade and Jerry Jones needs to be severely punished for his shady deals. Mike Lynn left the Vikings to run the WLAF after this, he and Jerry Jones are best friends, so he had nothing to lose. He allows his team to be fleeced, because he's helping out a good buddy and he won't be around to suffer the repercussions!
This trade was actually 5 players and 8 picks the Vikings gave up. If you look at some of the MAJOR trades in the NFL the last couple years, you can't tell me this wasn't a dirty trade:
Randy Moss who is statistically one of the NFL greatest ever WR's, still in his prime, went for a 1st & a 7th, plus an average LB.
Jay Cutler a 25yr old Pro Bowl QB going for 2 first round picks!
Plus, other Pro Bowl players (in their prime) who went for even less: Johnathan Vilma, Kellen Winslow, Braylon Edwards...
You could argue all these guys were head cases, but Walker was no team leader either. Mr.Bobsledding was never knowns as a team player who had a very up and down career before the trade.
This whole thing stunk from the beginning and Jerry Jones can't be allowed to get away with it...
Interesting points, never thought about that, makes a lot of sense, they sure mortgaged the state with that trade huh.

Hoo boy, why even print this? Lynn's decision to trade for Walker wasn't in itself a terrible decision, but the reality was that Walker could have been had for far less if Lynn hadn't been salivating all over himself. Too boot, the Vikings didn't exactly have a stellar QB situation at that time either, though Lynn seems to forget that.

But the fact that Lynn gave away the house was an absolute embarrassment, and proved that new ownership was needed. What a horrible trade, made worse by how successful Dallas became as a result of it.

I made a bet with a friend of mine that Walker would never rush for a 1000 yards in a season as a Viking. My reasoning was that, at that time, the Vikings were a trap and draw running team under Jerry Burns, not the power running that Dallas was, where you line a guy up eight yards behind the line and pound him between the tackles.

Needless to say, I won the bet: a case of beer. It was good, too.

Too bad Lynn wasn't asked about that sweetheart deal he cut with the Metrodome to line his pockets, and how he feels about that getting ready to end.

Couple more things;

Didn't the Vikings give up three first round picks (90,91,92)? I know in 1993 Robert Smith was the 1st first round pick the team had since Randall McDaniel in 1988.

Didn't Lynn once blame Jerry Burns for this trade after it became obvious that it was a complete failure?

Do us a favor; don't ever bring up this sorry chapter in team history again. Lynn was a colossal embarrassment as an owner and this trade was a disaster that cost the team a shot at the Super Bowl during the 1990s.

I remember the Hershel Walker trade. Thought at the time, that it was bad for Minn.
I thought that Mike Lynn was just stupid or desperate to save his job.
Now thanks to this forum, I can see where Lynn probably cashed in, by selling out the Viks
to his buddy Jones.
Are you sure this was 5 players, 8 draft picks, IDS Building, Mendota Bridge, One sq block in downtown st paul, U of M Campus?
I thought Al Davis was a Sleeze Ball, Jones and Lynn belong to The NFL Slim Ball League.

Nope.(1) The suite revenue was already on the Owner's plate.(2) It was said Owner who wanted something from Lynn, for which HE OFFERED the 10% cut.

Manna from Heaven, as far as Mike Lynn was concerned.
