Packers defense sheds conservative plan

Full story: www.jsonline.com

Green Bay — On separate plays over a five-minute span at a recent practice, the Green Bay Packers blitzed with two linebackers , a safety, a nickel back and then two cornerbacks. "You're seeing the full onslaught of what our system is capable of doing," McCarthy said. "We're doing more with more personnel groups, and we're doing a little bit more with secondary pressure. That's all part of being aggressive schematically, which I feel we definitely are more now."

I couldn't agree more with the defense becoming more aggressive. Dallas game was a pretty good example. We couldn't cover anyone. Qbs like Romo, Brady, and both Mannings will find somebody open if given enough time b/c their teams are too stacked. Hurring those QBs because of pressure will be a nice change.

Like we were discussing yesterday in another thread, it's really the D that's going to have step up against this schedule. Creating more turnovers and getting more QB pressure will cut down on our DB fouls, I bet--and possibly take some pressure off ARod. 'Might give up a big play now and again, but it comes with the medicine.

Concerns me, was ,werent we supposed to be more aggressive a few years ago,,we blitzed for about 3 games, then went back to the same ole thing?

Yes , teams were reading the blitz, but we blized the same guys packages ect and we were younger, now a bit more veteran team, hopefully experience will play apart in the new aggresive defense.

Hey Eric, I think AJ will fit right in this new defensive scheme and he will finally live up to that 1st round pick we spent on him. You might be right about that experiment a few years ago, I think it might have been Sanders first go at it. I think with MM getting involved, we might be a little happier with the results this time around. Would really be nice to have a big play D. Maybe that is what MM is doing, figuring that the rest of the league will be consentrating on BF's replacement, we'll be shutting down their O. It would be a big help to AR.

I do not think it's a new philosophy. But I think getting a Brandon Chillars/possibly playing Bush some at safety is a clue that we are going to take advantage of our good players by rotating in "packages," as McCarthy likes to put it, on defense as well as offense. We have the athletes, so why not switch up and give a whole new look once in awhile? I think it's a question of who to block/where's the pressure coming from/what's my assignment for the opposition? Peyton/Moore, Garrett/Romo, Payton/Brees could use a bit more to think about when we line up. And I love throwing the QBs in our division more looks. They will make mistakes.

Yeah, Chillar definetly plays to that switch up you mention regarding the athletes we have, but I just can't accept Bush yet, I guess his preformance in the Dallas game is what got him in my doghouse. I did hear safety mentioned somewhere though, and he finally stepped it up in the last day of OTA's. Other than that he will be riding the bench behind Williams as the nickel D.

another reason im not scared of Dallas, 1 were in GB this year, not Dallas, 2 last year Dallas lite up Bush,if you remember Woodson was injured and didnt play.

If Woodson or Harris get hurt,we have Patrick Lee who is decent size and played the same type of defense in college as what we play here, and Tramon Williams,Wil Blackmon and a few others.
Ive read that Bush will play at safety as well and the coaches love his speed and athletism, but,i personally think if Tramon WIlliams has a decent training camp with his ability to return punts kicks, ect, Patric Lee as mentioned above,,Wil Blackmon, still have guys like Aaron Rousch,,I cant see a place on the roster for Bush.

HEY Proball,,,,i think Chillar is defenately an inprovement over Poppinga.Dont forget Poppinga played alot of a season he should have been getting his feet wet in,but Chilar is young but still a vet who is better in Popps in every LB catagory,so good call on that one.

Rookie quarterback Brian Brohm was intercepted three times on Tuesday afternoon. He did, however, lead the only touchdown drive as all three quarterbacks got a crack at running a two-minute drill.

Aaron Rodgers’ drive with the starting offense, which started at his 40-yard line sputtered early and ended with five conseuctive incompletions inside the defense’s 10-yard line. Matt Flynn went 1-for-4, with the only completion being a batted ball that he caught. Brohm, however, led the No. 2 offense to a 60-yard touchdown drive that he capped with a scoring pass to tight end Evan Moore. He completed 6-of-7 passes

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Leo

If you're worried about running up big debts in what is usually one of the most expensive months of the year, start keeping a running total of how much money you've spent so far. You might have to restrict the amount you spend on Christmas presents, or make other savings in order to stay within your budget, but you realize the folly of ending up severely out of pocket.
