Colts defense shows it still needs work

If the Indianapolis Colts' defense is a work in progress, Thursday night's venture into Texas Stadium served a purpose. Full Story

I've heard this so many times, but when you only allow 82.9 yards/game, as the Colts did during the playoffs last (which means they were playing the best teams in the best conference), then you can't keep saying the system is not working. Our system is built to play with the lead, and we are built for speed. We don't need to fix anything. We have obviously put our trust in the offense and Manning, and it shows with our mediocre to bad defense. However, if we're playing with the lead, then we're fine.

The Colts out of desperation is taking a chance on Ed Johnson to take over the DT spot and it might pay off.The guy had a good outing against the Cowboys. The Colts still need a run stuffer because all teams are going to do is run the ball to keep the Colts offense off the field. It is just preseason and I hope they can find someone who can stop the run inside. They have to get rid of this small DT philosophy because it is not going to work.

Your way off the mark buddy!
The d JUST happened to put couple decent games together (it was about time)& most people beleive it was more the offenses they played just had bad games. We are extremely lucky we didn't hhave to play the chargers; they would have put 50 on the defense that's just built for speed: which is by the way is just an excuse!

I NOTICED THAT AGAIN IT THE ARTICLE THAT WAS WROTE, THAT NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT THE USUAL SORGI ( NOTHING ) AND THE QB THAT DID GET A TD NEVER GOT NOTCIED AGAIN. WHY KEEP SORGI ?
I have said this when they signed Sorgi to that one year contract that it didn't make any sense to keep him around because you can't bank on Manning to stay healty after losing Tarik Glenn to retirement. You have a rookie playing LT and anything can happen. Bettis showed poise and running ability and give the Colts the best chance to win if Manning gets injured.

You know what I'm sick of hearing? "You're lucky the Colts didn't play the Chargers. They would have put 50 up on you." You can take that line and shove it, because the fact of the matter is, they obviously weren't good enough on the day they were supposed to come and play, and the got beat. Thus, they didn't move on to play the Colts. You can fuss and moan all day about how bad the D is, but when it came down to it, they came to play. Cut the crap BET. Winning is winning, and that's what the Colts did. If you want to go on bad games and "what-ifs" all day, then we should have been Super Bowl champs the year before when we went 14-2. But we had a "bad game" and the Steelers were lucky, right? WRONG, they came better prepared to play that day, and we did not. Very simple. Quit making excuses. I know the Colts D is great, but we don't need them to be smart one.

Correction, "I know the Colt's D isn't great, but they don't need to be."

I was watching the game in which Peyton barely got touched on any play he was in there. On that Marvin pass he had about 6 or 7 seconds!!!!!!!!!!
That is forever in the NFL. No time to check down to secondary targets? He threw at least two passes to Addai on checkdowns and he went through his entire projection and then still had time to come back to Marvin on that big gainer. Hell, Dungy even said after the game explicitly "offensively, I thought we pass-protected well against their first group".
I am pretty sure he was watching the same game I was. I guess the real question is WHAT GAME WERE YOU WATCHING?
I was watching the game where Peyton got the you-know-what knocked out of him by Demarcus ware from the backside, forcing an errant throw that stalled the Colts' drive on third down. However, Ware was not, on this play, lined up against Ugho- but against the right tackle. Wade's 3-4 is more creative than seen in Dallas in the past, and they will continue to bring Ware from all directions--as Manning knows now. That said, I am sure the Colts offense will survive Glenn's departure. Once again, it is their lack of run defense--this year amplified by the loss of McFarland for the season. Looks like Peyton will have to continue to shoot it out. He is still great guy and an even better QB.
