Ragtag 'D' might not hold Ravens together

Full story: Baltimore Sun

The bad news is well, did you watch the game Saturday night? Or the one the week before? The games against, respectively, the St.Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings showed how indispensable those Ravens defenders ...

If we have to play regular season games with Walker and Ivy we're in trouble. I agree there isn't a lot of depth in the secondary and the defensive line but with a 53 man roster and a salary cap I'm not sure many teams have two sets of defensive starters. How many teams have four starting corners and can replace two D lineman with starters? I also thought that the two rookies whose names I can't pronounce or spell have a nose for the ball. BTW what is the Ravens penchant for getting players with the most foreign sounding names?

If the starters can stay healthy we have a very good defense but if they begin to drop all hell is going to break loose in the secondary.

God help us.

The over/under on wins this year is 5. I am taking the under. The offense is still (very) bad and the defense is old and injured. Bring on a top 10 pick in the draft.

We need more than that. Need to drop Boller and get a vet QB that isn't a McNair. Boller wouldn't even be a backup QB on most squads. Hopefully Troy steps it up SOON.

3-4 doesn't put a lot of pressure on the QB. Especially when the line backers drop in coverage to protect against the pass. pressure comes from the blitz in a 3-4.If you blitz a Db a linebacker covers the pass.If you blitz a Lb you leave a Db covering short and deep. If a Qb can read the blitz he owns the 3-4 Defense. The NT and DTs must be monsters in 3-4.

I told you I wasn't the problem but 'you all' had to listen to Preston, by the way where is he ? I wonder if he got a retirement package like I did ?

agreed, the defense and special teams are going to have to carry this team early in the season, while the ravens try to develop a reliable QB. I think smith has the largest upside for this season and needs a chance to prove himself. we know what we are getting with Kyle and its not been the type of play that will carry us through the playoffs and likely even get there. the man throws interceptions inside the red zone like its his job.

I don't know if the 3-4 is going to work with this current crop of LBs and D-Line. Ray and Scott looked slow in pursuit sideline to sideline, and this against a poor Rams O-Line.

I think perhaps Rex may need to pull out Dad's 4-6 or even 5-3 as the base.

Not a very positive article, but unfortunately it's a pretty fair assessment.

We need help NOW, but are probably NOT in any financial shape (cap room) to get it this year. Rebuild, play the kids, look forward to the draft.

this just goes to show that Rex Ryan is severly overrated.
He always tells us what the problem is, as if we can't see it for ourselves, but has YET to fix the problem. I still have no respect for him for allowing starting CB's to give the the WR a 12-15 yard cushion. It's pretty much a first down for the opposing offense every single time.

looks like Ryan's window to a HCing job is shutting. His D doesn't look too good and if it continues to be shredded, it won't make him look attarctive either.

maybe rex should cool it down when the first string isnt in

all those blitzes with guys who arent as fast and strong as price and ngata...leave the secondary vulnerable

We get the point- you like Billick- now contribute something worth typing. Billick is gone- no getting him back. Move on towards the future.

This team will only go as far as the defense takes them. Our WRs are average at best, makeshift O line, no proven QB, the constant we have is Stover- Czech is having a good preseason. We should keep him and cut stover next year.

Gotta try those guys at some point if they will ever fit into the Ravens system. If they werent ever tested in preason, why would they do well in the regular season?

Looks like the Ravens should have let T.Suggs go and taken the future drafts choices. They have a lot of holes to be filled. Plus they could have saved a lot of money towards the "salary cap."

he is doing the same blitz coming from the same places leaving Ivy and Walker naked ( they need
all the help they can get ). Sometimes we have to line up and just beat you man , not trick them all the time , after 3 years of bad defense he should have adjusted

3 years of bad defense? What? Yes, last year we were not good but only after the secondary injuries. The defense has been stout and Rex has done a great job. No coordinator will look good with Walker and Ivy as starting CBs. Steele's article is surprisingly accurate for a change. This defense will be very good but only if the secondary starters stay on the field.

CMac is obviously hurting and Rolle was really never any good here. He's been torched more than Joan of Ark

But you honestly cant blame Ryan For what Newsome, Decosta, Cass and Harbaugh didnt give him....if you sat a 5 year old down in front of a Raven Game last year and said whats wrong with this team they would have said they cant stop the other team from catching passes and they cant block the other team........but the braintrust wanted to give the new coach a top flight dream quarterback to work with so they threw all the immediate priorities to the wind....after Washington made the 2 interceptions against the patriots b team Ryan was Gloating about how smart Newsome was for getting Washington for a fourth round pick and maybe he is....but thats still not nearly enough for a collosil problem...people are still having a warm fuzzy feeling for Mcalister and Rolle because of their great careers ...but that has nothing to do with they're capeabilities to cover very fasy very talented receivers who work with very smart quarterbacks right now.....and somehow I dont think Corey Ivy will be carrying to many guys off the field in celebration come september.

Ouch. This is going to be a very painful season. I had said earlier that the Ravens would be lucky indeed to go 8-8. How about 5-11? We're going to begging for the baseball season to start again before we get to Thanksgiving.
I was basing my earlier optimism on having a credible defense. That's looking more like a pipe dream every outing now. At least they'll be picking up some good draft picks next year.

no you can't, but perception is everything in this league. Plenty of high paying jobs went to guys with huge credentials that had no business getting the jobs. Ryan was passed over after last season and he will be again if this year's D doesn't do well regardless if it's his fault or the front offices. Least I remind you of one of the biggets frauds in history with a great resume'- Sir Brian Billick. Rex deserves a shot that might get shot down by Ivey
