Vikings' defense rises from the ashes in best effort of the season

Full story: TwinCities.com

An East Coast blizzard and the NFL's mind-numbing decision to postpone their game against the Eagles created a two-day interval for the Vikings' defense to channel a season's worth of frustration into one supercharged performance.

I wouldnt give frazier the job based on that alone!!! we have not had a franchise qb since a young tommy kramer!! I have been following this rediculous group since tark,,they always do the worst thing imaginable to their fans!! they are a joke from top to bottom!!! the packers and rodgers show so much heart with all their injuries and if they get in they will be the team no one wants!! and heres minny winning the garbage game and blowing their draft!!! they just dropped out of the top ten and will probably land around 18!!! thats what they just won!!! qbs gone,,top dts gone,,top tackles gone,, this is a qb driven league and if you dont have a franchise qb you have no shot!! rodgers and cutler are 4 - 0 on us and those teams will be better next year!! put a wr with cutler or a top back with rodgers!! where do we go now!!! our best shot at next year just went out the window,,webb will never be on brady, manning, or even rodgers , cutler level and if so how many years just to overachieve and being servicable? I CANT TAKE THIS LOSER FRANCHISE ANYMORE,,, and if stafford ever shows up you have 3 franchise guys in your own division to have to get by!!! my god frasier what did you just do!!! heres the answer and its why we always fail,,we did the worst thing we could do!! and our headcoach doesnt realise it!!! inferior coaches that kill us by not knowing how to handle a team !! burns with the late 80s group,,ten years later denny and the kneel down,,ten years later chili and a 12 man huddle!! who will be the loser 10 yrs from now who kills us!!!

Kramer, you're as drunk as ever. You can't expect a coach auditioning for a job to lay down for draft picks he may never see anyway if he gets the boot after the season.

Webb could indeed be the franchise quarterback we are looking for. Drafted at the same position as Brady, same 40 time as Vick, amazing college stats. Hopefully he starts again Sunday to see if he can consistently play at this level.

hey coach ,,your ridiculous,,the eagles didnt show up today so stop being giddy!! this pack of quitters is a joke and them playing when theres nothing on the line shows how poorly run they are!! ok einstein this is the same webb from the last few weeks,, the lions are playing better and if they bring suh and co after webb he will be atrocious!! he was not projected as a qb out of the draft!! luck, newton,or locher would go right by him!!! and if webb doesnt look good on sunday then what!! you have to get real players if you want to compete!!!the vike skill players are so goddamn good anyone can run them when they care and their opponent doesnt!!! giants and bears wanted those games and you saw this team crumble!! and as a new coach you sit down with the owner and start planning your future NOW!!!YOU SAY WE NEED THE DRAFT BUT i CAN WIN SOME GARBAGE GAMES AND BLOW IT!! IF HE SAYS GO WIN ,,THEN SO BE IT AND YOU ALSO KNOW HOW CLUELESS HE IS!!! I'm sure if the owner wants wins,,the bears and giants were worth having and we couldnt compete,, your a clueless moron coach,,and winning always feels good but you have to look and say did we really win tonight!! come april you'll feel differently!!!

All I have to say is wow......where has THIS defense been all season or for that matter, for the last 20 years. It was fantastic waching the Vikes actually blitz once in a while instead of playing their infamous and ineffective cover 2. Maybe Frazier watched MNF and thought, OMG pressuring the QB actually works. Both the Vikes and the Falcons defenses looked absolutely deadly on Monday and Tuesday night. Great job fellas, remember this game come week 1 next year! SKOL!!

Yes 9krammer is high...on himself..He states the Eagles didn't show up!! Well, the Vikings DID!! 9K, before you continue your vicious insane ramblings, look for your tiny brain in the garbage can where you lost it...The Vikings played to win...NOT for Draft picks! Joe Webb came through as I hoped he would...Now lets see what he can do at Detroit! Leave Favre on the bench..Detroit has really improved and will be no cake walk...Play Favre and he will most likely be carried off the field in a basket...Frazier you play Favre, and you lose what support the fans have...I have been yelling for Webb to start QB playing ever since he arrived.. Got shot down by all the Know-it-alls, who claims he was only good as a WR....I enjoyed the semi-trick plays Frazier sent in for Webb to use... Now Webb is the Vikings QB for the future, if only Frazier, Wilf, and the other "leaders" will wake up...The Vikings have to catch up and eventually pass the Packers and the Bears...Training Webb would be one helluva start!

Take a deep breath......first off yes you have been a big fan of him all season..........and I am with you, I hope he can be our QB of the future but let's be realistic. Only 1 game, Bevell designed a very simple spoon fed game plan for him, short passes, receivers rarely ran a route past 10 yds. in order to keep everything in front of him, and a good steady dose of AP.

I say definitely keep this guy on the roster......showed poise and ability but let's see if he is capable of realyy reading Defenses.

In the mean time good call on WEBB beer facts(lol), enjoy the win.........

A total team effert in all fazes of the game. It looks like we've found our quarterback in JOE WEBB he really surprized me in that game. He looked more like mike vick than vick did. go vikings.

well, really isn't that the west coast offense? dink and dunk, get first downs and move the ball, the coaches showed up last night more than anything, game 15 and we realize on defense that our DB's are "suspect" (trying to be nice here) and there has been almost zero pass rush from the front 4 all year, hey here's an idea...let's blitz, and it worked, definitely made things easier on the defense, and harder on Philly. You can say the eagles didn't show up, but trust me Vick getting knocked around out of the gate took him off his game, and it trickled down (like what we've seen all year from our team)

It is to a certain extent, goal is to draw the LB's and secondary up closer to the line by throwing short and running as well in order to stretch the field later in the game..........look I am not taking anything away from him just telling it like it is, nothing more I would like than to have our QB situation solved..........but it is only one game.

It's not a mystery where the pass rush has been, it's a mystery why the Vikings have been afraid to blitz.

The 4 man pass rush is bogus...blitz, blitz, and blitz some more. The big reason the NFL is swinging toward the 3-4 is that they can send one or two linebackers every play and the offense doesn't know where they're coming from.

If ever a team was made for a 3-4, it was the Vikings...Leber, Greenway, Henderson, and Brinkley at linebackers. Kevin Williams at tackle, Allen and Edwards the ends....with all the depth in the line, substitute and keep them fresh....and blitz, blitz, blitz!

Webb showed some pocket presence well beyond his years, and more than TJ ever did, and against a very good defense. We saw TJ in the last game against the Eagles and he looked atrocious, and I think the book is finally closed on his Vikings future.
Favre can no longer help this team, except for grooming his heir, so I don't agree with him taking over at QB. If the team is willing to put him in at starter, he should be willing to bench himself after the start and finally step aside.

Great game plan on both sides of the ball. Do you suppose the D was excited to play once they knew they would be in attack mode all night as opposed to their usual cover 2 bend but don't break D? And no Madieu W., no embarrasingly poor angles and whiffs. Please let him go. Sanford played pretty good and he'll knock your head off. Webb's legs may have opened things up for AP a bit also, DE's had to worry about the boot action all night. We'll still get a very good player in the draft, who knows, maybe even draft a few good players with Chilly gone. No more round 2 reaches and busts.

First of all we Bear fans all want to thank the Vikings for the gift. It amazes me that they finally woke up and gave Vick a steady package of corner blitzes like they should have done all year to opposing QBs instead of the vaunted cover two, no pressure, four man rush. My question to Zygi is where were these packages all year? Had they been used this team would probably be in the playoffs. To watch a team waste game after game using that soft prevent defense and let teams move the chains down the field on them is beyond me. Rush the QB is the name of this game and force then out early causing them to make mistakes, bad throws or throw before they are ready. You know without question if this guy becomes the HC he will revert bad to his usuall style and it will be the same sorry a** defense, but you know what we Beart fans don't mind. Thanks again Leslie keep up the good work.

I don't now whether to be happy that the team finally played to it's potential or pissed off that it took 15 games to figure out that rushing four down lineman wasn't getting the job done and putting enough pressure on the opposing QB. Where was this all season? I like Frazier for the head coaching job, but he has to be accountable for not calling more blitzes through out the season.

I was particularly proud of our defensive backs who stepped up and provided excellent coverage that allowed the blitz packages to be as successful as they were. It's been a long time since I've seen these backs even in a position to get a hand on any balls to break up a pass.
