Totally off-topic here -
The Vikings signed 3 UFA's this year: Rhys Lloyd, Mike Montgomery, and Lito Sheppard, for approximately $4 million combined. That's one special teams starter, and two likely backups.
They also lost 3: Taylor, Hicks, and Paymah, who signed with their new teams for a combined $17 million. Taylor and Hicks should get substantial playing time, if not starting roles.
The Vikings lost much more than they gained in the UFA market last month.
I'm trying to figure out how that affects them for next year's draft when it comes to gaining compensatory picks. The highest comp. picks start at the end of the 3rd round; if they can gain a late 3rd round pick (or more) for these losses, that would be huge in giving them some leverage to trade up for a QB, etc.
Anyone know the super secret formula the NFL uses to figure out who gets what?

YOUR GONNA LIKE THIS. IT IS BASED on the player's salry, his playing time, and post season success with his new team. Salary is the primary factor. I looked it up, I was wondering that a couple months ago as well, good Q.

Also if a team gains and loses the same # of FA players that team can only be awarded a 7th round pick provided that team has lost a higher valued player.

Academic troubles are ok. The Vikings don't need him for rocketry science; Cook will be far more valuable as a smart cornerback. Good choice. Skol Vikings.

Like a lot of young men his age, he made some mistakes. He seems to have learned from them and moved on. Good choice to go back to school and face the situation head-on. Given the situation and where the Vikings had to pick from, Cook wasn't a bad choice. Let's hope todays picks bring some good talent and help make this team better.

A position of need, and now we have a replacement for Taylor too. Get some O-Line help and the competition will wilt before our very eyes.

Ziggy gained 13 mil. in swapping FAs.Drafted 2 2nd rounders which will cost about the same as 1 first and any pick 4th round and down you can sign for minimal cost.He will need the money to pay Griffin and Winfield as they both signed nice contracts and might not play due to injuries. We will still field a very good team so this is good business sense.Go Vikes

I liked the pick, either Cook or Mays I would have been happy. I wanted Mays more, I feel Safety is a must but CB will do. I didn't like the trade up for Toby Gerhart. Should of traded up to take Mays, Sergio, or even Clausen/McCoy. Why Gerhart? We should of just taken Best with the 30th pick then trade up to take Cook in the 2nd rd. Not a big fan of helping teams in the same division upgrading.

Better take Bruce Campbell today with that 2nd selection of the 4th round. I can't believe a top 20 talent is still on the board at this point. This guy posted some great combine numbers.
