Angelo interested in, not obsessed with, Boldin

Read between the lines of Jerry Angelo's interview Saturday afternoon on WSCR-AM with Bears play-by-play man Jeff Joniak, and two things appear clear regarding any potential involvement with Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Read more

If this happens, Angelo can run for Mayor of Chicago and win. But more likely is that it doesn't happen and they end up with a Mark Bradley type WR who takes two or three years to pan out.

I have a feeling that Da Bears already made a trade for Boldin. But not yet announced.

The Beloved are in great position: if there's nobody they like at 49, they can try to trade the pick for Anquan. If there's somebody there worth taking, get him and no harm done, but there's this little voice in the back of my head that is getting louder and saying: "Go get him, Jerry! And throw in Hillenmeyer to sweeten the deal."

We have $20 million in cap space & need $3.6 million to allocate to rookie draft picks. That leaves us with $16.4 million left to payout. Boldin wants $9 million per year which would drop us to $7.4 million to pursue Undrafted Rookie Free Agents as well as other Free Agents. We need to make this deal.

Lemme see: 2nd rounder for Boldin is the asking price.. Angelo trades our second rounder to SEATTLE. Apparently it just costs too much money for the Bears to run a professional franchise in a major city with great revenues. Guess what? you don't often get 2nd round talent in the fourth round. Sometimes, not often and Angelo's record is horrible in that regard.

The Bears simply can't afford Boldin. He wants $10mil per year. Simply not going to happen.
Hard to figure out the Bears trade of their 2nd round.
The desperately needed a quality receiver and free safety. They have pressing additional needs at corner, linebacker, runningback, backup QB, offensive lineman, additional wide receivers, and the list goes on and on. I guess Angelo is saving the money he needs to rework Cutler's contract.

Hey bigot, where do you get off thinking your comment would be acceptable here? Obviously you assume it would be okay to let everyone know of your ignorance. That's good. We need to know about you. Racists who are brazen with their hate. By showing yourself, it presents an easier way to ridicule you so that hopefully, it reduces your access in society- much like exterminators using their methods to do away with or marginalize cockroaches and rats. But yeah, that's right vermin like you have no shame, no filter and no sense.

Holes I am worried about:
(1) WR - Its getting scary. However, one superstar WR like Plaxico, Boldin or Edwards changes things a great bit. With a top notch WR like the 3 named, Hester doesn't look so bad as the #2, he will have a big year with a great QB regardless. With solid TE we are set. Oh yea Davis and Bennett might surprise with a pro-bowl QB.
(2) Safety - I'm not sold on Payne or Manning or any of the others. We are weaker here than at receiver. I assume the first pick tomorrow will be a safety or on the OL
(3) The line - I feel better with the Pace, Oylmpie (sp?) and healthy Chris William, but the OL with an aging Kreutz and ? at every position is a huge scare. I assume first big tomorrow with be on the line or safety.

Medium Concerns:
(1) CB - When your CB is a leading tackler, you have a problem. Tillman is way overrate and would be a great safety, but is a overrated CB. Vasher was a let down, but I think it was because of injures. Either way it not good to have a hole in both the CB and safety

1) Angelo claims the QB makes the WRs. He's more right than wrong on that! I think they wanted Robiskie or Nicks, but it didn't happen, so plan B
2) The trade of #2 for a #3 and a #4 was smart. The scouts have consistently found good values in the later rounds, altho it's less than a 50% hit, so, if they didn't love the player at #49, then trade down!!
3) The GM figures the Bears can get 3 starters out of this draft. If so, they'll make the playoffs. They have 9 picks, so make it happen.
4) If they feel they are real close, they will go and get Boldin, and maybe Rex. Then, barring injuries, they may get back to the SB. One great pick and two solid starters could do it!

too many thin-skinned peeps here. The Bears HAVE been too, um, cheap in the past and going after Boldin would show a promising conversion! Lose the skullcaps and open the wallet!

The Bears koolaid is making the rounds tonight. Is your real name Jerry Angelo. If cutler had been playing QB for the Bears last year, with our line and receivers, the results wouldn't have been any different.
you are dreaming if you think the Bears will end up with any 09 starters from the draft picks. Maybe one or two in 2010 or 2011 at best.
No chance for Boldin at $9 to $10 million per season. Now Burress might be right up their alley if he's released from prison by September. How about Michael Vick as well!
No, the Bears will not be returning to the SB any time soon. Just too many holes on offense, defense and special teams. Let's also not forget the fact that the Bears have one of the weakest coaching staffs in the NFL.

They are 20 million under cap and Boldin want's 9 million per year so money isn't an issue. When you really think about it, it would just make too much sense for the Bears to put a top 5 QB with one of the best WR in the game together cause what good could come of that. Since they won't be getting Boldon, hopefully they seriously consider WR Ramses Barden but I wont be getting my hopes up. I think the only reason Angelo made the Cutler trade was to keep fans fans interested. If he didn't do something they would have lost alot of supporters from being sick of them not correcting th QB position. But since everyone is so excited about the season because of Cutler. Why bother bringing anybody else in to improve the team any more. Sometimes it really sucks being a Bears fan

Dave,
I'm glad that the Bears didn't listen to you in taking Boldin. If that would happen, it would be truely a sign of the blind leading the blind.
I think the asking price was too much both in draft picks, players and money for a player that only has a few more years left before he retires.
If Boldin was the difference between winning a superbowl and not, I would think it would make sense to get him. But both you and I know that the bears aren't going to any superbowl this year...or do you want to start that rumor as well?
