I can't say I'm all that surprised. It seems to be a recurring trend with the bears-go cheap and pray for the best. They buy one qb and expect great things to happen. I din't think the front office has noticed yet, but it's true-A QB IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE RRECEIVING CORE THAT SURROUNDS HIM. Jay did not bring Royal/Marshall with him and they were a HUGE FACTOR in his success. Well, he asked for this trade and he got it, along with the mediocre receivers.

I don't really have a problem with the pick of Moore... But is the money problem so bad that they can't allow their scouts to go further than Nashville?

And don't be so sure they can handle Tennessee or Florida... they couldn't before!:)

Painter from Purdue still on the board or one of his WRs...? They sometimes stop in West Lafayette on their way to Nashville. I bet they wanted Magee in the 3rd but just got beaten to the punch. Hey, isn't Rosie Colvin a FA?

The Bears have been very prudent in trading back and drafting quality players with reasonable value. Good draft so far.

We'll see how good Royal/Marshall are now with Orton The Underthrow. Cutler has six targets I'm happy to go to war with, pre-draft.

Reasonable value = cheap
Frugality: a proud Chicago Bears tradition.

Put the Kool-Aid down--the Bears' receiving corps is still pedestrian, headed by one who still is learning route-running.

Iglesias is a second or third receiver, at best, and is no burner.

The question in my mind is: even if the receiver wasn't at 49, why not get the best available player, anyway? It isn't like the Bears are a complete team.

This draft gets a "C" from me--sure, they addressed needs, but with lower-rated talent. Nothing earth-shattering.

What is an "Anquan"? Did his momma make that one up or his bigger sister?

Julio Iglesias and Devon Hester are absolutely striking fear into the hearts of Harris and Woodson. I CAN'T WAIT for September 13th. I wonder how Crybaby Jay will like the taste of the Lambeau turf.

Gee, thanks for the grade. I am sure Jerry Angelo and staff were waiting with abated breath for your opinion. So tell us how long have been breaking down tape of all seniors, attending bowl games, interviewing prospects, etc to determine your grade of a C? Oh, and lets not forget, not one of these players has yet play a down in a professional game.

And I'm sure Angelo's got your # on speed dial, to say "thanks" for the backup, pal.

Bad News Bears let another one escape to Green Bay.
Jamarko Simmons from Western Michigan University takes his Greg Jennings WMU career breaking abilities north of the border.

Jennings is 2x better than any Bear receiver and Simmons torched 1st rdr Vantai Davis for 11 catches close to 200 yds and a score, head to head. Just one specfic example of his career record setting play.

Again, Bad News Bears.

I just can't get over the fact that a Safety who once was rated in as a second round pick, was there in the 7th and the Bears didn't take him??? Derek Peques! Why Jerry, why???

I'm still trying to figure out how a tackle who's 6'7", 365, first team All-American, and from the SEC (LSU) goes all the way down to the 5th round.(Herman Johnson) I know we didn't really need to grab another tackle, but how did everyone miss this guy?

Chicago addressed their team needs as best they could if you indeed review their draft choices. Their DEF was terrible last season. Very underpar from what the league is used to from previous seasons.

Drafting D-Line should help this team. Granted they didn't exactly draft difference makers. I would give CHI more credit on their RUSH DEF, but after watching Brandon "Im a joke" Jackson tear them up for over 100 yards, that came into question.

As far as the WR position goes; a great QB can do without great recievers. Brady before Moss arrived. And let's not forget that Favre guy for years in Green Bay.

Antonio Freeman was no barn burner.

Hey Observer...I think Cutler makes the Bears better right now, period! I respected what Orton did, but he likely will never be an elite quaterback, whereas Cutler has the potential. What I like about your post is that you have the courage to take the Bears to task. I've been livid with Bears ownership, management, and even the coaching staff at times for years...and when I express my utter disdain for these individuals running the club, I've often received harsh criticism from some Bears fans. Not sure why...I've been a Mega-Bears fan for 4+ decades and have seen this once proud franchise turned into a laughingstock. I suspect many of the criticisms come from "fans" in their 20's, so I give them a pass when they are critical of my postings...they don't know any better. Bottom line, the Bears are notoriously cheap, and if anyone with any sense tried to defend this regime and looked at the facts and history, they realize the common denominator throughout the years with the team and all their failings is ownership. It started with our beloved George Halas, and now his loving daughter Virginia learned his lessons so well she carried on the tradition. Ownership is still cheap, and even when they make a seemingly good move, they stop short of making real progress and improvements just to save a few bucks instead of trying to win. It's so sad...the fantastic tradition of this team, the rabid fan base, and the history are being embarrassed. Tell me...how in the hell can the Steelers go to 7 SB's, the Broncos 6 , the Cowboys 8, the Giants 5, The Niners 5, etc, etc, etc? Arguably the greatest and most storied franchise in the NFL (Bears) have been to 2 Super Bowls, winning one. And the only outrage I hear is when I post a negative comment about Bears ownership and management? I'm just at a loss. GO BEARS...I'll love you forever, but it's sad to see what you've become. Perhaps some day these young blog commentators will gain some experience and wisdom and see what I and my dad/uncles have seen for all these years...the Bears are cheap and only an ownership change will truly change their fortune. To any of my haters, I forgive you in advance for hating one of your own that is only speaking the truth. Go Bears!

Bravo to Jeff, the PASSIONATE BEARS FAN.

Heres a guy a lot of fans here in the NFC North can learn a lot from. He sees the big picture. He gives credit where credit is due and criticism where it is most needed.

It is a fan like you, who make rivalries worth something again. Rather than exclaiming how great the Bears are and how BAD their opponents are.

I look forward to hearing from you more often.
