B.J. Raji - is he playing his way to a new contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2014? Mary Langenfeld-USA TODAY Sports photograph The average Green Bay Packers fan is not thinking about the money issues right now because the 2013 season is only two games old, but you can bet every NFL team's executive has the salary cap uppermost in his mind ... I enjoy talking cap and always have as some of you folks may have noticed..
Aaron Rodgers and Clay Mathews will cost the Packers 10M MORE in cap space next year ( keep in mind its early in this 13 season).
( Many things can happen, but, for sake of conversation,,no facts, no info just my opinion and again for conversation sake).Ive read between the MJS and other articles.GB has 10M in cap space available right now,,that said,They are nego with Raji,,its said he is looking for 10M and the cap will be tight but doable...( lets say GB signs Raji,,why couldnt they front load him with 8M or money available NOW PLUS his 5.6cap number now) pay him 13.6M in cap space for 2013 and they can drop the number back to 10M for 14 ( giving the Packers 3.6M more going forward) also things to think on Ryan Pickett is older but he still kicks ass,SO,why not offer RP a 2 year deal and edge his cap number down a bit....
IF Banjo ( who played well and is willing to hit in his limited time playing so far) plays and hits, doesnt allow one of our safties to be released, Devon House played special teams pretty well so far, doesnt that allow Jarrett Bush to be expendable via trade or release ( all of which frees up cap space) John Kuhn is gone ( FA wont be resigned, why would you, when you can draft a young FB with size cheap, but, again GBP doesnt use the FB as much,so why bother)..SO far.Mike Neal is playing LB/DE well so he may just get paid, but again..Bush,Kuhn,MD Jennings can be cut and save several Million.Quarless can be expendable ( if AR wants Finley) or Finley can be let to go and Quarrless can play it well ( not as well as JF in spots but better in spots ( JF is inconsistent)
Players like EDS is a FA if they like the kid from Oklahoma state,EDS is expendable..How ABOUT BULAGA? IF Bahkitari plays well at LT and Barclay plays well at RT ( has to clean up the bull rush issue) is Bulaga trade bait ( despite some injuries) and free up cap space and they can draft a linemen with an upper pick.Im sure they would want to sign Cobb LT ( his deal will be a monster when he hits,so they may want to sign him early and buy out a year early) Jones is a FA after 13,if hes like Jennings ( one of his friends as been said) he may be going for the money,he may be gone,Nelson ( i have a feeling) can be had for a bit less ( listening or reading comments hes made in the past)..14 will be intersting in terms of cap space. but 13 is a long season left,so we can enjoy the whole thing and it will be what it is.

I think the problem that the Pack face considering the cap situation is that this team is not getting younger. I know you guys love TT, but look at the last three drafts (prior to the Datone Jones draft); three first round busts (Bulaga; Perry and Sherrod) and a couple of second round busts (Worthy; Neal). Signing the Raji's etc of the team are what you need to now to remain competitive, but there isn't much young talent coming in. It will take dollars to infuse some youth into the Pack organization, but if all the money is tied up in three or four players the rest of the team suffers.

Ill say this.Sherrod ( i can see your point,a 1st round pick that didnt work out,,) i hardly think hes a bust,he got leg whipped and broke it in 2 places..
either way its a 1st rounder not playing, but,a bust? IMO, NO...Unfortunate is more like it. PERRY is in year 2 hardly enough time ( mike Neal also plays out there and is learning on the fly and at least vs Wash. did a solid job)..Bulaga,a few injuries the past few years slowed him down for sure but he held the spot and Bahkitari does take the job ( meaning he is a legit LT),then its his and same for Barclay on the right side ( where BB was).
question is, Are you saying GB shouldnt have signed Aaron Rodgers or Clay Mathews? both top notch at their respective positions? THEY HAD TO BE SIGNED and the fact TT drafted both is a HUGE CREDIT TO HIM! Thing is the Packers seem to have guys to replace others and GB remains well under the cap and a SB contender and you really cant knock or ask for alot more other then winning more SB.We heard it will hurt losing Jennings,Not a bit, they lost to SF in a 6 pt game that could have easily gone either way,Washington game wasnt really a game, although Washington scored during the 4th when it was long over to make it closer then it was..I can see your point and im concerned as well to a point but TT and Co. have proven for nearly a decade they can field a Championship calibur team and be cap responsible and although 2014 will be a challenge and Maybe GB takes a year to step back, they will be back up once again,TT done it,proved it and has run the organization as one of the best in the NFL.Worthy tore an ACL and may still play this year, importantly, he was improving as the year went, which is key.Neal,as i brought up is playing a hybrid type out there, learning on the job and has done a nice job thus far.Besides the fact,GB has a few guys who can be cut like John Kuhn, Jarrett Bush,,allowed to leave via FAcy w/o an offer like MD Jennings.A few will prob. leave like Sam Shields and a few will be asked to take pay cuts like Tramon Williams,Ryan Pickett.Lots of cogs and moving parts here and it will take some doing but again,TT has proven to be a top notch GM and GB will come out as strong as can be.The cap is designed to allow teams to be on top for a while then fall back and the fact GB has hung in there is a testament to the great job Ted has done.

It could be that a few of the players will be willing to restructure to help out the team if they like their surroundings and want to make deep runs the next few years. Not everyone is after the money only. I do agree that some young blood on D or that O-LINE would really help. I think you have nice talent at the skill positions if you can keep it together. I hope Lacey isn't hurt too bad.

I agree where your squad put themselves into a position where they had to sign Rodgers and Matthews; and eventually Raji. But you invest big dollars in a 30 year old QB and without cap space the O line is in the bottom third of the league. GB would do themselves a favor and pull Rodgers in games similar to the Redskin game where the win was determined by the third quarter. In a league of big hits (legal and illegal) protecting your primary investment is of the utmost priority. When it comes to draft picks either they produce or they don't, TT's last three years have not been stellar and now the RB savior from this years draft is probably not going to live up to his preseason standards.

I definitly agree that Rodgers should have been taken out of the Redskins game earlier and I have Rodgers as one of my fantasy QBs! It's foolish to subject him to the risk of injury when he is no longer needed on the field.

I can see them pulling Rodgers in a game later on during the season but early in the season,he is still working on Rhythm and getting playing time..Camp was for Young and the other qbs to take snaps and its a good thing,we found out that Wallace a late signing was a better option

Which running back savior are you referring? DuJaun Harris ( the original) hes out for the season or Eddie Lacy?..He got concussed ansd will prob. miss 1 game ( he will miss next game vs Cin,a pretty good run defense from what ive read) Thats hardly a case to be made that he wont live up to preseason standards. He got all this week off, miss a game, rest a week before the bye, rest week after the bye and play the next game ( Detroit i believe)

As much money as Rogers is counting against the cap he should be returning kickoffs and fielding punts as well

I heard the Packers will be missing yet another secondary player to injury so maybe Aaron should play safety or corner as well as qb,returning kickoffs and Fielding punts

In Ted and Mike defense,if there is anyone worth the cap space taken, its Aaron Rodgers a certain 1st ballot HOFer.

He had a sub-par game yesterday. If I didn't know any better I would have sworn Tebow was QB'ing the Pack
