Portis does see one advantage to the game being shifted to the mainland. It could be a much more affordable trip for fans.

Whats the use of making the game easier to go to if the players don't want to be there. When this lolo idea bombs next year and the NFL comes crawling back to Hawaii we should make them pay us instead of the other way around.

It's like me winning a free trip to Hawaii.

Before the Pro Bowl got here the game was being played in empty stadiums. Why would you want to go see a all star game if a NFL team is located near you and you could attend a real game with real consequences. Hawaii should be rewarded for being such loyal fans all these years. If it ain't broke don't change it. When it comes back I wonder if the fans will.

Losing this game was a huge mistake, both on the part of the NFL and Hawaii. Our stadium is falling apart and is too small. We should have realised this a long time ago and built a new one. Yes, it would have cost multi millions of dollars but how much was contributed to our state's economy each year from this event? Especially now with tourism crashing like a lead balloon, we need to fight to keep what little we have left. The PGA is also talking about cancelling the Sony Open at Waialae CC because its too far away and doesn't have the flash it once had. HTA needs to spend those millions on keeping what we already have, not on trying to drum up more tourists from Cali.

Let them go....Let everyone go tourists and all. Hawaii will be pushed to borderline 3rd world place with all of our deteriorating ecosystems/facilities/infrastr ucture. Once were there...The mainland US will feel sorry for us and maybe want to give us billions like Iraq, Afganistan,Thailand, New Orleans, Somalia, etc. If were lucky other countries like the Japan, China, or Great Brittan will have some handouts for us to...Like a global welfare system....Its gotta get worse before it gets better...Here we go

Prior to the ProBowl venue being in Hawaii, not only were the stadiums empty, the players found every excuse not to attend. Hawaii saved the game!

I didn't see anything about them wanting it to stay in Hawaii. What a horrible article.

I agree with Windward! Hawaii should be rewarded for its loyal fan base.

On a separate note. I am frankly amazed there is another person from Hawaii living in Ottawa right now!

Yeah I can see where it's a financial thing-practical thing. More people live in the continental US than in Hawaii-dah.
But while we're on the subject of saving money and costs and things....I think sports globally and in general need to seriously look at what these athletes are being paid. I mean come on-the outrageous salaries. During these tough economic times there needs to be a serious look at what all these athletes are keeping paid. Some of them grouped together (I mean small groups) could support a small country? Go figure. Enough of the astronomical salaries-NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, Tiger (Woods), Roger (Federer), Christiano (Renaldo) anyone is worth the money they are getting paid.
