UCLA frustrated over defensive disappearing act

Full story: LA Daily News 59
UCLA's poor tackling at times has become the worst-kept secret in the Pac-10. "We knew their secondary had trouble against Oregon wrapping up the runner," Cal running back Shane Vereen said after the Bears' 45-26 win at the Rose Bowl on Saturday. Full Story

We are lacking players with heart, determination and motivation. We need to play our second to players in order to turn our season around.

Memo to UCLA fans....Rome was not built in a day. CRN has been on the job less than two years so you need to have some patience. As a USC fan I saw the reclaimation project that Carrol has done at SC...the only difference being that Carrol inherited some pretty talented players who were never coached before. Hackett could recruit but he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. You have some good young players and some better ones coming in, a year from now things will be different.

Yeah, and just 3 weeks ago UCLA_Rob, manhatten_beach_dude and a couple of other guys were saying how they would take Rick over Pete any day!! LOL!!

They were hollering, "3-0, Baby!!"

I tried to tell them not to get too excited. They didn't want to listen. Now they'll settle for their favorite line of, "As long as we beat 'SC, that's all that matters."

I am sick and tired of you guys making excuse for the freshmen being young. When the 2006 class came in all you could here was negect things. Those guys never was given a fair oppurnity and all they could here was upper clssman. Do you think that was fair to them? So how would you feel if someone made that statement about your kid if he or she was waiting patiently to their chance now you want to keep quite about the young players making mistake. WhatUCLA games are you guys watching on TV players getting thrown all the way down the field and you don not talk about that. Also, some of them do not know the play or what to do come on. So please do not say what the 2006 recurit can or can not do they just came in at a bad time when the coach that recurited was let go. Real Players were the 2006 class only if they were given the fair shake. So why didn't any one say that about the 2006 class. Never ever given a fair shake . Say that this not true .

What I love about our crosstown rivalry is that it is usually THE game of the season. Yeah, it's great to beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl, but it's way more fun to beat UCLA. This year, the Bruins will try to be the spoiler. It IS their championship game. It would make their season if they beat us. They could play crappy all season long and bam, they face the Trojans and they're a new team. Anything could happen on any given Saturday and I am looking forward to another great game on November 28th. Fight on!

Yes, Nov 28 will be fun! I'll be the first to admit, you never know in that one...no matter how far apart the teams may seem.

Just a question. What is the real problem? Coaching? Talent? Recruiting? All of the above I think.

I don't recall ever saying I would take Rick over Pete, please provide the link

Ya we were 3-0 now 3-3, pathatic game saturday, at least in the OU and Sanford games we were still in the game the 2nd half. We seem to be going backward.

Of course beating U $ c always makes our season, Especially when we knock U $ c out of the championship game.

BTW Pete dam near lost the ND game in the 4th Qtr. By trying to run the clock out. Your receivers were Soo wide open, he should have kept passing, and scoring then he wouldn't need to run the clock out. Good game to watch, as I lost interest in the Bruin game.

You guys can blame Carroll all day long, but on any given Saturday who would you rather have as coach for your team - Neuheisel or Carroll? I thought so.

manhatten_beach_dude's response: Neuheisel hands down

The article was "Carroll plays blame game after 16-13 stunner". Don't know if it can still be retrieved.

No worries about forgetting what you posted. We all do it once in a while.

I'm hoping for a good game on Nov 28!

Excuses need to end. We're in 9th place in the Pac-10 and deserve it with the way we've been playing. There is no killer instinct in our program. It's almost like we prepare ourselves for losing. "If we can only keep it close enough". I know our guys play hard and leave it all out on the field, but this is UCLA and we expect winners. There have been small improvements with our offense but we're still so behind where we need to be. Way too many dropped balls. Prince needs to make quicker and better reads. Where are the screens? At least Dorrell had the balls to go for a fake punt or trick play once in a while. I'm exasperated with our lack of production in the red-zone. Our secondary play has been terrible the past three games. Remember Chris Horton & Dennis Keys? What happend to hard hitting aggressive safeties like those guys? The Pac-10 is a tougher conference this year than the press is giving credit to. Our Bruins are going to have to get their stuff together in a hurry because even the game at Wazzu isn't a gimme. Time to mentally prepare for 3-9. FAWK!!!

According to wikipedia, Aikman finished 1989 with an 0-11 record as a starter, completing 155 of 293 passes for 1,749 yards, 9 TDs, and 18 INTs. Or was that a rhetorical question?
